I believe you not only have a good handle on this complex subject but you know how to "break it down" for the average Christian to be able to digest. I was actually trying to give you a complement about your book -- didn't mean to put you off. I guess I had hoped this "thread" would lead to some good Spirited discussion on this important topic.I think it is essential for brethren to come together in love & really "hash" these kind of things out(even when they do not see eye to eye)....I believe we should be benevelont enough to be able to "agree to disagree" & hopefully we may all come away with knowledge/enlightenment that we did not have before. I just want to say one of the things that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about this kind of forum is the opportunity to "throw" these kind of issues out there for mutual research & discussion. I feel like many times I have come away with a better grasp on a particular subject. Though over the years I loved most of the teaching at CC & heard we had the freedom to check things out & disagree I never felt this was the case....guess I would have felt a bit intimidated to express a different view....but I am a bit older & more established in what I believe + I won't get all bent out of shape if others disagree with me. I enjoy what folks like David K, & Steve Born (even though Steve & I do not always agree), Lanny & many others have to say on topics.....this is an opportunity for all of us that was just not at CC --- That is time & space to discuss, debate, mull over, etc. our Biblical views together Matt ---------- Re: AU ,thats the IDEA! Posted by Author Unknown on 11/28/2001, 1:33 pm , in reply to "Re: AU ,I do know your veiw on the subject -- & thats the IDEA!" Dear Brother Matt: Thank you for your positive words about my manuscript. I also believe that it is healthy for us on this board to hash out doctrines, by looking at issues from differing viewpoints. I’m sorry if I seem a little gun-shy. I get like this around Chapelites because of preconditioning. When I lived in Chapel approved housing “dorms” I was not allowed to express any other doctrinal positions than what DB endorsed. BB took me aside one evening and instructed me in this matter. I complied for the most part making sure that I did not stumble any of the newborn by only parroting Don’s views on doctrine. Back then I loved to discuss the Bible, but around Chapelites I found it difficult. So many times I was asked: is this what Don believes? One man even said, are you sure Don believes in dinosaurs? It seemed like even proven Scientific knowledge held little weight unless the students were assured that Don approved of it. At times the saying, “Don said it I believe it and that settles it,” was an appropriate summation of the mindset of many among us. One dorm-mate even said to me, “I blindly follow Don out of love.” Who made Don the final authority? It’s true that people tend to follow leaders. And we were not peculiar in this. But it upset me back then. And Matt, I hope your right. I hope that now we as a body can look at doctrines and weigh them with a scale of Truth and not just the endorsement of one man. Maybe now what we believe can be reasoned out among us purely in the light of sound scriptural principles? ---------- Amen AU!! Posted by Matt Geib on 11/28/2001, 2:34 pm , in reply to "Re: AU ,thats the IDEA!" AU I do know what you mean about the cc idea of following Don blindly....I do think that was the case & yet with many of us it came out of a good heart. As I have gotten older in my public teaching I always want to stress that people need to be able to "divide the word of God" for themselves...& to "see if these things be so"....don't just believe it cause Matt or any other respected Saint says it but find out for yourself, that is so very important for personal growth spiritually, besides there is such a somber, & grave warning of accountability before God to those of us who would endeavor to "take on that teaching mantle".....I would shudder to think that I would lead anyone astray by my own opinions. Anyway, AU, I hope you along with others feel free to express yourself here, I for one appreciate it! I know in times past on this board some have been quite critical of others but we need to not all be so quick to judge & be so narrow with each other God Bless You! I would enjoy looking through it. Thank you. However, this is not simply a word study. I hope I did not mislead you. Somehow I think you may enjoy it if you just let go and have some fun reading it. ---------- Re: Author Is Known Posted by Tom Ashley Young on 11/30/2001, 5:14 am , in reply to "Re: Author Unknown" Thank you - I shall look forward to receiving the book. If you include a clear return address I'll mail you back one of mine (Between the Lines) - acrostically different than the link below. I really don't want any more material things. You reading it is all that I desire. May God bless you ---------- Re: Author Is Known Posted by Tom Ashley Young on 12/12/2001, 11:56 am , in reply to "Re: Author Is Known by some" I received the snail mail of Riding the Ark Thru Armageddon. Thank you for sending it. I am almost all the way through and find it very challenging. ---------- My Thoughts on a Partial Rapture - Please Respond Posted by Richard on 11/27/2001, 4:54 pm , in reply to "The ManChild Company" I still believe in a pre-trib rapture. However, I do struggle with the idea of a PARTIAL rapture which is a very obscure and unusual view. Being obscure and "in the minority" does not mean that it cannot be the truth of course and that is not the reason I struggle with it. I do not believe that the manchild is Christ (which makes no logical sense) but I do struggle with a partial rapture. A partial rapture means that God distinguishes certain believers from other believers. I have always viewed the work of Jesus on the cross as the only work that makes us acceptable to God. He alone is our righteousness. It is as if God looks at each one of through what Christ accomplished on the cross. He only sees Christ! Thank God! Therefore, how does God decide which Christians go in the rapture? I mean EXACTLY and PRACTICALLY how does He decide???? Let's get this down to reality. What if a "manchild Christian" happens to grievously sin 30 minutes before the rapture? What if a "non-Manchild Christian" has been abundantly full of faith for one year before the rapture? If our righteousness is imputed to us by faith, then how does God distinguish between saved, born-again Christians walking in the faith of His work to make us righteous and acceptable to Him? A partial rapture sounds good but, seriously, who is in and who is out and what is God's criteria if we are all equally righteous??? I would really like to hear what people have to say on this issue. I do not necessarily disbelieve a partial rapture but it begs serious PRACTICAL questions. I struggled with this even after completing my ThB at CCBTC. I have never met another Christian outside CCBTC who has even heard of a ---------- Re: My response Posted by Keith on 11/27/2001, 9:37 pm , in reply to "My Thoughts on a Partial Rapture - Please Respond" The judge of all the earth will do right, would be my first thought. I guess it comes down to is the rapture partial or is the Bible refering to believers and non-believers? The rapture is not spelled out crystal clear, Enoch was taken because He had the testimony that he pleased God. If I am not taken in the rapture I will not feel any less important or any less capable of doing good for God's kingdom (at least eventually I think I'll come back to that). We can wrestle and ride on the fact that He is good and His mercy endures forever, regardless, as long as we are found in Jesus. My gut feeling has been that I think the rapture probably isn't as partial as CC taught but it may still be partial in that those that are lost in their own world apart from Christ yet born again may miss out. Like the virgins with no oil or those that weren't watching and waiting. Just a few of my thoughts.
