Posted by SB on 12/30/2001, 12:43 am Posted by Anthony W. Savini on 11/26/2001, 12:05 pm , in reply to "I'm going to see if I can get in touch with my friend in Israel and see what he says about it" "he tries to claim that the Bible is superstition and garbage too, it makes his comments ring hollow on my ears." I don't recall saying exactly that. What I have said is that the Bible is a work of man. This assertion can be easily be supported by the fact that in every extant manuscript there are errors - mostly misspellings but errors nevertheless. Scholars have "corrected" these mistakes according to what they thought is right. The Bible is not God and I refuse to place it on the same level as God. God is perfect...man is not and never will be. How many times must we read the stories in the bible and history before we realize that whatever gets into our hands is soon soiled. Christianity is not the same as it was in the 1st century or the 4th century or the 16th Century. Is this because God changed? No, of course not! Its because we have changed christianity! Of course we call it different things - "customs and traditions" is one of my favorites! "Brother it's a new covenent/dispensation" - the all time best excuse to ignore the Bible. Am I advocating let's go back to the LAW or pickup at let's say the 17th century and start burning witches, persecuting infidels, unbelievers, etc. No! But at least be honest with yourself that you too pick and choose the scriptures that you (and the church of your choice)want to obey. I forgot the very best dodge I've heard was "Do according to your own conscience" lets see if we translate this to biblical language it will sound like this "do what's right in your own eyes".
Yeah whatever!
