Posted by JL/anon/CW/SB, et al on 10/3/2001, 2:00 pm Posted by Josef Larsson on 8/24/2001, 11:42 pm I just heard from someone that there was a prophesy about the church being humbled during the first service at the sanctuary. I wasn't there at the time but I can just imagine it: I don't know what the actual message said, but I would like to hear for myself and/or hear impressions of it from those who remember on the board. -Joe ____________________ Posted by anon on 8/25/2001, 2:14 am Here's a notable quote from the bulliten(SP?) Pastoral message tip: Except for worship, put your spouse before your spiritual connection. ---------- That's a good one Posted by Dave Kenady on 8/25/2001, 7:48 am , in reply to "August 24th Bulliten(sp?)" Was that actually for real or are you just being funny? __________ Posted by Chris Walters on 8/25/2001, 5:48 am Hi everyone. I see there are some old familiar names on this board as well as some new ones. I'm glad this board has continued to exist. Kudos, Dave! You do a fine job! I've been out of commission for almost a year when it comes to the computer. My computer at home got fried in a storm (we have thunder and lightning storms here) almost a year ago and I put other things ahead of replacing it. Long story short, I think I'll be back more. Interesting when you get away from the internet and computer for a while, well, I'm not as interested as I used to be in spending a lot of time there. It's been a slow road coming back. Below there is a thread about musical blessings and there are comments about a lot of spiritual music being borne at one place and one time at CCBTC. Since I was a part of that, I guess I feel qualified to throw in my two-cents worth. As a songwriter, I found it almost too easy to write at times. The environment was ripe. We were supportive of each other, and, if the truth be told, we were all a little competitive, I believe. When you have many people who constantly compliment and encourage you, well, you write! When your buddies in music are up there singing a new great song, well, you get encouraged to come up with something new, too! We had everything from soup to nuts when it came to music at the chapel. I'm not talking about musical styles. I'm talking about beliefs and attitudes. Some musicians felt that God "gave" them songs, even down to the exact scribblings on the paper! (And, others felt that those folks received songs that way!) I never felt this - I was always changing stuff and trying to make it better. I considered myself an artist, reacting to the experiences of my relationship with God. I always knew that the songs I wrote came from Chris, not God. Were they God inspired? I certainly hope so, since my motivation was to honor him, in spite of being the frail, imperfect human vessel I am! Also, when I left the Chapel, I basically quit writing. Oh, there have been a few songs along the way, but they are so indicative of a lonely journey. Inspiration is fleeting. We cannot manufacture it. I've never been satisfied just being a songwriter. If I can't lead people into worship, I really don't want to do it. What would be the purpose? The motivation has to be there, e.g., ministering music in a church. Recently, I've had an opportunity to regularly lead worship again in a very small church. Ironically, I've known in my heart that I will start writing again. In fact, I have. My point is that I have a reason now to write. Is it like it was at the Chapel? NO! Why? Because this church isn't like the Chapel. Therefore, one song in 2 months instead of 2 minutes is reasonable because of where I am in life. We are creatures of our experiences, and particularly of the environment of which we are presently a part. Motivation ebbs and flows. Inspiration is fleeting. The Chapel was what it was, but God is not stuck in that. Are we? ---------- Posted by Lita on 9/5/2001, 10:08 am , in reply to "musical blessing, cont'd" Hi Chris! hey, I deleted my old Juno account, thus losing like a dork, your email. I don't remember this exact invitation, but I sure have many fond memories of fine times with the twins, et.al. In fact, whenever I think back on those fun and famous times, I kind of miss the good old days. I remember 1981 well. Late that July (or was it early August?), music ministry received "new direction" from Don, via George. The Iowa Trio and the KJ Quartet, and others took a serious blow to their musical momentum at the time. So, there are bitter and there are sweet memories. No doubt we all had some major fun. It's fun to remember those times.

Look what our hands have made! Our church is going to go forth in the power of God as the manchild it will be great! Now we have an awsome new building! Then God speaks something along the lines of "...there will be no great men among you..." and he speaks of a humbling. It reminds me of the scripture "...unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it will bares no fruit."
