Posted by AU on 8/25/2001, 5:55 pm CAN THE TRINITY STAND INVESTIGATION? Understanding that many Christians who have faith in God's Word hold the Trinity resolute, this author will compare the Trinity to God's Word to see if it has any merit. The Athanasian Creed of the Trinity is the most well-known and trusted worldwide; this creed is read in churches every Sunday. From the Catholic to the Lutheran Church, this creed is dogma! Let’s view a small portion of it and see how it lines up to God's Word. The creed says: "The Son is of the Father alone, not made, nor created nor begotten, but proceeding." But the Bible says: “the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee" (Ps 2:7). The Trinity states, the Son was not begotten. The Bible states the Son was begotten. Both statements cannot be true! More difficulty arises with this Trinitarian verse. Many Trinitarians understand that Yahweh is the Hebrew name for the Father from the Old Testament. This is good theology. The word "LORD" in the King James version of the Bible means Yahweh. The translators put it in capital letters to let us know that. Case in point: that demonstrates Yahweh the Creator is the Father of Jesus. This is also true. However, the Athanasian Creed of the Trinity states that the Holy Ghost is another person, separate from the Father. It also states that the Son is of the Father alone. That brings us to our next Bible text; "fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost" (Mt 1:20). If the Holy Ghost is a separate person from the Father as the Trinity demands, then according to this scripture, the Father is not really the Father of Jesus – another person is! Yet the Athanasian Creed of the Trinity states that the Son – Jesus – is of the Father alone! The Trinity that has existed for over fifteen hundred years, the Trinity, which millions of Christians believe; the Trinity that is the very hallmark of Christianity, falls short of legitimacy!
