Posted by AU on 8/11/2001, 1:02 pm The subject of the "Feast Days" is owned by God, not man. He gives revelation to men (Pastors, Teachers, etc.) about the subject who then presents it to the body in the form of sermons. As far as COA's take on the subject, speaking for myself, I believe it is right on and I will not read someone else opinion on the subject. The Lord has given great revelation to the Pastor and he carefully and thoroughly researches everything before he brings it to the body, (at least this has been my experience for the last 24 years). Regardless of your disagreement, you do not attend COA; listen to the ongoing sermons, nor to my knowledge are you writing this book on behalf of COA. So what's the problem! Go to the Christian bookstore and you will find 10 different books, written by 10 different authors with 10 different interpretations on the rapture and every other biblical subject for that matter. ---------- "I will not read someone else opinion on the subject." Huh? Posted by Dave Kenady on 6/2/2001, 8:14 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more" "As far as COA's take on the subject, speaking for myself, I believe it is right on and I will not read someone else opinion on the subject." Well, of course, the short answer, Eric, is that you just did. But I am curious why you are confirming my earlier observation that at COA, "Don said it, I believe it and that settles it." Even when I was under Don and believed practically everything he said, I still checked it out for myself and read what others thought. I still think Don is an excellent Bible teacher and would tend to defer to his opinion on many subjects, but nowadays I feel I truly have my own opinion based on more than one source and tested by the fires of discussions among believers about various subjects. ---------- One of many reasons why I appreciated our Bible college Posted by Dave Kenady on 6/2/2001, 8:35 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more" I appreciated our Bible college because the teachers not only taught what they believed to be the truth, but taught what others believed and why it was wrong. At the very least, this was a good perspective to have. Of course, in my zeal of that day, I immediately went out and would discuss these things with others and found out for myself, firsthand, what they thought. It was a great confirmation to discover that they responded just as my BC teachers saif they would. And my discussions with them helped establish my own theology in my own mind and heart. Don Barnett used to tell the story of the woman who came up to him one morning and asked him, "Pastor, what do we believe about this?" Don replied, "What's this we business? You need to know and believe for yourself." A few of us have come to the defense of COA in the thread below about the robot joke. But a comment like "As far as COA's take on the subject, speaking for myself, I believe it is right on and I will not read someone else opinion on the subject," does tend to sound kind of robotic. ---------- Posted by EricO on 6/2/2001, 9:15 am , in reply to ""I will not read someone else opinion on the subject." Huh?" Let me make a correction on this subject, I am not interested in reading someone else’s opinion on the subjects the Pastor teaches. I didn’t read the postings of Author Unknowns chapters rather just the initial post briefly and the final post. In the past, in my early days at the Chapel, and even going to Bible College, I use to devour Christian books on all subjects and every different opinion and found that I got very confused on issues. I never confess to be a Bible scholar. I have found it more profitable to confirm what DB preaches by doing a bible study on the subject (searching out the scriptures) than take another author’s opinion, escpecially someone who may have less spiritual light in my view. However do take my opinion as speaking for the church, I am in no authority to do so ("But I am curious why you are confirming my earlier observation that at COA, "Don said it, I believe it and that settles it.") I speak for myself only, and I dont confess to be correct on all things. ---------- Re: Correction (typo) Posted by EricO on 6/2/2001, 9:26 am , in reply to "Re: "I will not read someone else opinion on the subject." At Chapel we used to quote the Scripture, "From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (On Trek Next Generation the Borg says, "You will be assimilated. Resistence is futile.") ---------- Re: In the world they call that a "Freudian slip." Posted by EricO on 6/4/2001, 4:16 pm , in reply to "Re: Correction (typo)" I confess I can't type, just finger punching the keys at 20-30 words a minute. Therefore I do a lot of editing and spell checking with MS Word before I post. I often make many grammatical and spelling mistakes. I was not English major in college. I don’t think this quote you posted applies "From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh" to cover my grammatical errors! ---------- Re: Feast Days: Open Mouth Insert Foot Posted by Author Unknown on 6/2/2001, 6:43 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more" What was I doing by posting the chapter on the Feast Days? Was I trying to stir up some discussion on the board? Yes. However I wish I had left out some smug remarks. In the first place the symbolism of the Feast Days is pretty straightforward and it is beautiful. To what degree and to what extent we enter into Tabernacles on this planet is not as straight forward. I believe the Spirit will guide us into the place he has for as we yield to him. However my frustration with the attitude of some of us Chapelites has remained constant for the last 20 years. And that frustration came out in my post last night. I am not trying to usurp Don’s authority as a good teacher. Nevertheless I think Don and those who are under him should stay open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is where it’s hard to draw a line. Within the Watch Tower Society, it’s okay for the leaders to have a meeting to discuss different doctrinal positions. However once the current president makes up his mind on the doctrine and it is published in Watch Tower publications that position becomes Truth. Even though that Truth was mere speculation the day before. To be a good Jehovah Witness you must affirm what Truths are currently accepted from the top down. The Holy Spirit can only lead that Church through its Oracle and the publications. I believe God delivered me from that system of thinking. I believe God can give us wisdom and direction individually and it should all be the same. Truth is one. Yet how can we come into the oneness of the faith when some of us limit the Spirit of God. ---------- Posted by EricO on 6/10/2001, 4:30 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days: Open Mouth Insert Foot " I'm curious, what church do you attend? ---------- Posted by Dave Kenady on 6/2/2001, 8:48 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more" I am enjoying your book. I've been sidetracked with projects and need to get back to reading the rest. It is well written and easily understood. I think anyone who just read this section that you posted would agree. And as far as the little spat that occurred a year or so ago about your research, that was a crazy exchange. I wouldn't worry about it. You have a gift and a God-given goal. ---------- Re: Feast Days more, Thank You Posted by Author Unknown on 6/2/2001, 10:15 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more" Thank you, David for your kind words about the book. I was curious about how you were receiving it. In my eyes I believe the book is a refinement of Chapel doctrine, not a reproof of it. I believe many Chapelites would be deeply edified by reading it. David has a copy of the finished manuscript. The only changes made since then was one page in a chapter on the 144,000 which was done to clarify a point being made. The whole book could be as long as 300 pages depending on the font size. I will keep you in touch as to when it will be published. When it is published I will go traveling/promoting the work. I believe in this calling. I would still like your prayers, “that God’s calling would go unhindered in this matter” because there has been a lot of Satanic opposition. Matt, if you choose to post your ideas about the work, this would be a good time. ---------- Posted by Dave Kenady on 6/2/2001, 11:25 am , in reply to "Re: Feast Days more, Thank You" "I believe the book is a refinement of Chapel doctrine." This is exactly how it seems to me also. Well written, easily understood and you have the ability to lay a foundation and then move into that which is built upon the foundation. Makes it easier to see the big picture. I found it refreshing to feel the spirit of the work which to me was a desire to impart knowledge of God's Word. I actually was surprised to hear of your bad experience with Don and Russ. It's too bad there could not have been some sort of collaboration.
