I use a method similar to Luu. In the beginning of the school year, each speech group discusses the 2 to 4 "good speech behaviors" they think are important and we list them on our Speech Behavior Contract. The students are told that for every 5 minutes of good speech behaviors they receive a "plus", 5 or 6 pluses per session and they earn a "happy face". When they earn 5 "happy faces" (5 good speech sessions), they have a variety of rewards to choose from (free ice cream at lunch, candy necklace, "candy eyeball", "alien lollipop", or an extra prize from the prize box). I've used this method for the past year or so and have found it works wonderfully! I consider the couple of dollars that I spend on rewards is well worth the amount of effort the kids give me. I'm also fortunate enough to have a unique candy store in town for the unusual rewards. Barb
