This parent needs information about the scope of the public school services. Unless a student's needs require individual services (as written in the IEP) group therapy is appropriate. Aside from learning new sounds, there are many benefits for grouping preschoolers (e.g. school readiness behaviors) If this parent is dissatisfied, I would suggest to her that she may need to pursue private services. Be careful about this recommendation as you would not want your school district to have to pay. Check your state organization re: supervision requirements for new SLPs. Also, unless and until you start inservicing the administration and board of education on ASHA's recommended workloads, they will likely continue to require the maximum # of children to be served.
