Sometimes I use playdoh as an activity/motivator, especially with my kindergartners. I start with all of the playdoh. After each turn/word, I give the child a small piece of the playdoh. After a few turns, it starts to add up. When it's the other student's turn, they have something to fiddle with. It also works for comparisons and pronouns - I have them roll up their ball and we compare "Whose is bigger?" Mine, yours, his, hers, etc. It sounds really simple, but it keeps them busy between turns and it works for all different ages and goals!
