In my previous job, I used regular 2 pocket folders for homework that I would provide at the start of the year. I wrote "Speech-Langauge Folder" and my name on the folder before I had them laminated. Once I had the folders laminated, I placed name tags on the top to write the student's name and the days/periods that they came to speech. Inside the folder I would put a calendar on one side. The students knew that if they did their homework and did their work during class that they would be able to choose from the sticker jar at the end of class. If they did not receive the sticker, I would write it on the calendar so the parents knew why. In addition, at random times I had extra big stickers that the students earned for the front of their folders. On the other side of the folder, I had a homework assignment sheet. I would write quick notes to the parents and have them sign that homework was completed here. The parents also knew that this way a quick way to keep in touch with me through quick notes. Approximately once a marking period, I would place papers behind the calendar and write that they could be kept home. Parents really seemed to like this method...the kids always had their folders and wanted to earn the stickers...the folders lasted the majority of the school year and were easily patched with masking tape.
