I made "S" door hangers from poster board that just said "speech day". I had a reliable student that was allowed to come into the building and deliver the S's. It didn't matter if the teacher was there or not. It realy helped because it reminded the teacher too. With older kids I have marked tarties, excused or no shows. There was a consequence for having three in a row.
