speechtxisfun is right on! In 22 years, I've never "made up" missed sessions. I am not responsible--the district is! I can not be held accountable when my district chooses not to get a sub for me. Also, think about this--you are making up sessions WHILE GETTING DOCKED for sick leave---hello---that can easily be considered harassment. Does mom have a right to get miffed? probably but her issue should be with the district and not with you. Ok, I know that you will be the peon backed into the corner by both sides because we have to keep all the mama's happy out there---if you are really getting the crappy end of it all-enlist the help of your union and create a Memorandum Of Understanding that if you are required to make up sessions-then you get paid for it or are exempt of being docked.
On a personal note, I've had a mom or two get upset with me but I fired right back with this one, " Yes, I did skip Billy last week as I was in a meeting for another child. Please remember that I skipped other children when I assessed and held formal meetings for your child. I know it can be frustrating for a parent but it all evens out in the end."--They backed off right away.
You can even write into the IEP "amount of time per week except when child is absent or therapist is performinig other offical duties." When you are sick, that may get tricky but again, enlist your union if your boss is nasty. YOU ARE NOT THE DISTRICT AND ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE!
