Hi- I am currently working with a 21 month old child. I have only been working with him for three weeks and gradually his behavior is getting worse and worse. He uses very few words and rarely imitates words. I have been able to get him to imitate some basic signs for desired objects, however I feel he is acting out because this is the first time demands have been put on him to use communication (verbal/nonverbal) in order get the things he wants. He will often throw tantrums even when I just sit next to him and attempt to talk to him. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can motivate this child or work with some of his behaviors so that we can get more out of his therapy sessions? I fear that I am just pushing him away because he knows that in the past I have put demands on him. I know there is so much potential there, but I am struggling in getting through to him. Any suggestions would be so helpful!
