I think that your problem is very understandable under the circumstances in your school (everyone is needy). First off, the IEP is your guideline. What does that say you should be doing? Second, focus on strategies. Don't focus as much on getting kids through the work, but on the STRATEGIES they need to learn to get through the work. Make sure they know (and you know) what strategy they have worked on to get through their assignments. Having kids keep a folder or notebook of what they do with you (I keep mine in the room, so the kids don't lose them) helps keep this clear in everyone's mind.
