i'm at the tail end of my cf year so some but still not a whole lot of experience and feeling like I'm flying solo especially with my 5th grade inclusion class.
I push into other classes k-4 and feel confident and successful.
the 5th graders are just not as attentive and i feel a lack of focus in my lesson as well. they are fine when I pull them out in groups but pushing in with a group of 13 is tough for me!! they are high funct. with Specific Lang. Disorder - answering wh- finding attributes, categorizing, vocab. ect.
I tried all sorts of lessons, reading, did the G.R.O.W activities and had good days and bad. but am not feeling effective and scrambling for ideas unlike my other groups.
spoke with the teacher for vocab lists and recommended if i can pull from social studies book. thrilled to help with a broader/abstract concept, i accepted. but I also feel like i've opened a can of worms and don't have any business trying to teach this!!
i tried supplementing the text with articles/stories on edhelper using the same concepts but it's a much a harder and broader concept - e.g., geography, landforms, climate.
did the lesson last week and yesterday - felt like some were still lost and some were into it. used a large Atlas to show pictures, supplied a reading, had students read, did a worksheet, and had students fill a word map on the board, talked about personal experiences travels.
i know it's not going to be perfect and that there are behaviors but I am just not feeling at ease. looking for ideas - Please help!!
