At first it seems overly complicated or labor intensive, but once I started using it, my old sticker sheet format was a much more time-consuming way to reinforce the students. It is more time intensive on the front end (laminating a map of the U.S., printing out clip art cars, attaching velcro), but the kids like picking out their car, moving to certain states, finding the quickest 'route' of states that touch, etc. It also becomes less noticeable that some students come twice a week and others only once a week, since the cars are spread out all over the map. The students get a little bit of geography while they're at it. I've found that I only give out prizes every other month or so, making the dollar store prizes reasonable. Also, for those of you who have not yet found 'Oriental Trading - www.orientaltrading.com', it is a great source for inexpensive prizes in bulk. Enjoy!

An idea very similar to this, that I first saw my CFY supervisor use, is a map of the United States. Each state has multiple velcro strips in it and each student has a car that attaches to the velcro. They start at the Pacific Ocean and move state by state to the Atlantic Ocean where they earn a trip to the treasure chest.
