This year, my students and I spent about 2 weeks prior to the winter break making game boards to target their current goals/objectives. I printed up a sheet explaining to parents how to use the game board (e.g., say the word 3x, use it in a sentence, describe 3-5 things about that item, etc.). I used boardmaker to print off about 20 pictures per student (we used sessions to "find" the pictures as they named them or described them). The students then practiced the words as they glued them on to the game board (printed on cardstock). We put the game board into a page protector and attached buttons for game pieces and a dice in a plastic bag. The children also decorated the game board with crayons or stickers. My only purchases were the cardstock, page protectors, buttons and dice. I sent it home with a message encouraging parents to play with their children and see what we've been working on all year. Plus it gave the kiddos a chance to practice while we were off for two weeks!
