I am trying to figure out a good way of doing homework for speech students. Last year, I was in my CF and shared a caseload with a more seasoned SLP, so I just took her lead on how she handled homework. She sent home a folder with a "sound packet" (it was just the pages from the Webber Jumbo Artic Book copied for each sound) and a signature page for the parents to sign. If the student practiced 4 times in a week, as shown by parent signatures, they got a sticker. If they got 4 stickers during the month, they got a prize. I could never fully wrap my mind around exactly what they had to do to get the prize and it wasn't motivating to very many students. I've talked to some parents about this system and they also stated it was somewhat confusing.
So, I'm trying to revamp it. The good news is I have parents asking if I will be sending home homework folders! I want to give them something to do, but I don't know what materials to send, how to make it motivating for the student to really practice at home, and how to keep track that they are actually practicing.
Does anyone have ANY ideas that may help me? I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
