Some ideas to throw around with the beach ball next time you all are tossing it around the office to decide what to do.
1) Auto Register Extensions
Really Simple Idea. When ever the search window is loaded, auto-detect all the registered file types from the registry. So we don't have to manually add half a million types ourselves. Chances are we are going to be searching for files that can be run on our computer.
1-Ext-A) Search
Basically add a search box to quickly locate extension types when loaded by the Auto-Load
1-Ext-B) Launch
Ability to launch a file in the parent program. Not something very major, but would come very handy for the BitTorrent P2P Network
This same basicic code would be used to launch a file through a virus scanner (Hint Hint)
1-Ext-C) "Add Selected To New/Existing Group"
Basically a way for us to quickly create groups. We go through our registered file list, select all the file types of type Game (Example Only), then click a button or menu that gives a window to either select the group to add to or create a new group to add the types to. So we don't have to manually add them all ourselves.
2) "Search Mode"
...I may of already mentioned this...Don't think so...Anyways, when Medusa is in search mode, it acts like the google bot, and just searches for text on various things, and sorts them by how many times the page has been found (Simulate Popularity. IE: I am sometimes looking for tutorials of various kinds. Graphics, Programming, Gaming, Etc. Well These type things are not locateable with Medusa, least they are PDF files for download. Basically, Instead of downloading the Page (Which is not to say it can't), it stores the URL for us to visit if it detects a certain word set. Then, as it finds a page more an more, up the times found and let us know what is looking most promising.
Might want to add some type of restriction, like at least 4 words to search for so as to help reduse traffic.
2-Ext-A) Site Groups
Essentially, if we are looking for something Specific (IE: Programming Scripts), to have it search a paticular group of sites, instead of just the single start search, and these sites are saved as a Site Group. Then we just select 'Search Site Group', fill out the form the rest of the way, and hit go. It then searches each of the sites individually. IE: 'Database Connections C++', in search group 'Coding' Searches Sites, hotscripts.com, planet-source-code.com, etc.
3) Duplicate Prohibit Mode
REQUIRES VERY GOOD PROCCESSOR. Basically this mode is where after a file is downloaded, it is automatically compared to other files downloaded (A simple binary check is all that is used). The place this would come the most in handy is for Image searches. There have been countless times that I have been looking for wallpapers and ended up with several copies of the same exact wallpaper, at the same size. Annoying, to say the least (Even more annoying for the image searches I am sure a lot of guys do with medusa)
