Thought For Today – “Your Conscience Never Lies…”
Although if you look around nowadays, especially in the news, you’ll think that some people actually DON’T have a conscience right? I mean, how can some people commit such heinous crimes and acts against their fellow man (or woman) and not even appear to have any remorse about their actions? What is the definition of a “conscience”? I mean really what is this thing that God placed inside each of us to steer us clear from right or wrong? The Webster’s Dictionary definition of a “Conscience” is – “the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives, impelling one towards right action.” Which would fall right into what God intended it to do when He placed it inside each of us at the very beginning of our existence. But it has one intentionally “Divinely Designed” flaw, it only works or is totally effective “IF” you listen to it. Yes, God could have very easily designed it to where we were never able to ignore that little “voice inside each of us” when we are about to do something wrong, had He wanted to. But you see, the way our God works, is that He wants to always give us a choice. He doesn’t want any of us to feel “forced” to do anything. And well, some people apparently have mastered the art of ignoring that little voice when it is screaming to them “DON’T DO THAT, IT IS WRONG”!!!! It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Your Conscience Never Lies….” And AMEN goes right here! I have also discussed recently in one of my Devotionals about the “Holy Spirt.” It is the part of the Holy Trinity (The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit) that makes up our Spiritual being. After Christ died on the Cross for all of our sins, and to give us a “right to the tree of life, aka Salvation,” He gave us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us. One could argue or debate that our Conscience and the Holy Spirit are the same thing couldn’t they? I mean, they do work in pretty much the same way, and to a great extent serves the same purposes, such as trying to steer us away from danger, poor decisions, etc…but just to be clear, they are NOT the same thing.
You are probably wondering, “if God placed this “Conscience” inside each of us to steer us clear of wrongdoing, how could we ever not listen to it”??? Well that is a very easy question to answer, it is because of what I said in the first paragraph, “because God always allows us to choose, He never forces us to do anything.” What a lot of people don’t realize, is that the more we ignore our “Consciences,” the quieter it becomes, until you won’t even hear it all. In my opinion, I think that this for some starts even at a very early on age in their lives. They are spoiled rotten from birth, or are raised up in households where “right and wrong” are not clarified and stressed very often. In other words, there are no clear boundaries set at the adolescence age, which translates to no boundaries kept in their adult life. This catastrophic result is directly responsible for some kids growing into “menaces to our society” and wreak havoc and chaos every chance they get. There are a few really good instances in the Biblical times of well-known people who ignored their “Consciences,” and it didn’t turn out too well for them…… the first being “Lucifer” aka Satan while he was still residing in Heaven. Here you have an Angel (at the time) who was said to be like God’s “right hand man,” minister over music aka Praise and Worship in Heaven, and that he was held in high regard in Heaven. It even goes on to say, that he was something to behold and that his chest was covered with precious stones. And yet when those jealous urges started to creep up inside him as a result of God’s close relationship with Jesus Christ, Lucifer’s “Conscience” either had already been silenced, or Lucifer just totally ignored it at that very moment, resulting in him losing all his Favor with God and eventually being kicked out of Heaven for eternity. Talk about a domino effect, next we have Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, who had been giving all of God’s “do’s and don’ts” of living in the Garden of Eden. Adam had dominion (that means complete rule or authority over) everything in the Garden. All he had to do was speak something, and like with God, it came to pass or to be. And yet when the serpent (aka Satan) came slithering down the meadows path while Eve was alone and vulnerable in the area of the Garden she was warned to stay clear of, she was tricked into believing that she had the right to know ALL that God knew, despite that not being made privy to her when she and Adam were given their “do’s and don’ts” rules from God. The dominos just keep falling, as one of Adam and Eve’s son Cain didn’t listen to his “Conscience” when he became jealous of his brother Abel who found favor with God after his sacrifice of his “firstlings,” and slew his brother out of jealousy. Do you see where this is going? The next instance would have to be all the people who perished in the first great flood where Noah and his family was spared. The whole world was so full of sin, that it would appear that they all had turned their “Consciences” off like a light switch. And well we all know how that turned out…
You have to know that is really displeases God, when those of us whose “Consciences” that are still screaming at the top of its lungs NOT to do something wrong and we do it anyways, it separates us from God until we repent for it and ask for forgiveness. “Sin,” is the one thing that can separate us from God faster than anything else. And I would think it is really hard for God to see us commit sin all while our “Consciences” are telling us “THAT IS WRONG, DON’T DO THAT,” and yet we do it anyways. Now the flip side to that, is that God knows we are going to sin. That was decided in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the forbidden tree. BUT, that does NOT give us a green light to just go and commit sin after sin just because we know we will be forgiven if we confess our sins to God and ask for that forgiveness. I’m sure some of you reading this are probably wondering, “dang a Christian can’t do anything “fun” or “exciting” without there being serious repercussions?” And to an extent there is some truth to that, but only because “Born Again Christians” are suppose set the example of what God expects of His followers. He knows we are going to fall short in our Christian journey, but what He is going to judge more than anything else, is the sincere effort you put forth in trying to resist that temptation. I mean, He DID give us a daily reminder for when we are about to mess up in our “Conscience,” so that we won’t do it. Then when you become born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, you technically have DOUBLE protection against it! One covers the “physical” realm, while the other covers the “Spiritual” realm. But when you keep doing it (ignoring your Conscience and the Holy Spirit) over and over to the point that you could do just about anything and not have any remorse about it, God will not allow that/those acts to go unpunished. Everything associated with the Christian walk is designed by God to be a “free choice” experience. You will not be able to say when judgment day comes, that you were “forced” to be a Christian, or “forced” to do right, or even the opposite “forced to do wrong.” We all always have a choice, and God made making the choices in life we face pretty easy by instilling a “Conscience” inside each of us to be our guide. As I stated at the beginning, sometimes people just choose for whatever reason, not to listen to them. Can I leave you with a life changing question or two to ponder?????
“Is your “Conscience” voice’s volume still turnt up LOUD, and if it is, do YOU listen to it when it tells you “DON’T DO THAT BECAUSE THAT IS WRONG”???? And for the saved and born again folks, is the “Holy Spirit” silent inside you, or does is it turnt way up to lead and guide you?
Can I get an Amen????
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what HE did for us on the Cross?”
