I bought a 12 year old heel horse to go to some local jackpots on and have recently found out that she was once a pretty nice calf horse. She had a pinched nerve in or around her hip but had a few calves roped on her after this happened. She is not hurting now or have signs of damage or injury. I have roped a few a calves on her and she is really nice with exception to the way she stops. She will trickle down and kind of fade to the left as if bracing for the jerk....not ducking just trickling off and I'm far past 19 and can't go on with it anymore. She doesn't do this heeling at all. My feeling is it's a confidence issue...Is there a good way to build the confidence back in her to take it? She is really good with everything else.

Make sure your horse is not sore. A lot of time they will do what you described to protect themselves. If your horse is sound knot rope on him

Thanks for your response. I have had her checked out and she is not sore. She does not brace for the jerk at all heeling...she stops straight and hard. I just feel like its memory/mental from having to protect herself before from taking the jerk roping calves.

Sounds like a habit she has created from when she was hurt. Maybe lots of getting off the left will re program her.
