Just trying to get a feel from others. How often do you practice (weather permitting) and how long do you practice? How many do you run on your #1 horse, do you tie from the post, if so how much? I have got a little rusty and my horse is really sharp. And I don't like embarrassing myself when I enter.

I run 5 head one time each 3 to 4 times a week. It depends upon their size what I do when I practice. I tiedown and breakaway when they are small enough. When they get too large I knot rope and breakaway. When they get very large I only breakaway. I rope my calve for a long time this way.

I rope the dummy 3 or 4 days a week, both from the ground and my 'dummy horse' and I rigged up a tying dummy that I tie a couple times a week and really focus on stringing and not missing my hooey. I only rope the sled on my good horse once or twice a week and focus on what she needs to work on. If I have a practice horse and calves around, I will rope 2-4 days a week. But I sold my practice horse over the winter and have not even bought any calves this year. I'm pushing 40 with a family and full time job so I too am just trying to maintain and be somewhat competitive when I enter...It's been a long time since I really tried to improve.
