I have about 7 calves that haven't grown off like the other 9 that all came off the same farm. I've been feeding 12% creep feed and hay free choice . What do yall recommend for these that need to gain weight? They are longhorn Mexican to cross.

Im sure you wormed them.12% doesn't do much.Purina Precon makes some good feed to put weight on.Here I use Mansville Ag feed. And some of those crossed like that just don't weigh up.Needs more fat and protein to grow off.Might implant them too.see how that helps.

we bought 11 calves at the same time that were virtually straight across the back, 9 of them have done well, but the other 2 we have really never roped because they just seem to survive.

I buy a sack or two of peanut meal in Gorman (home of the peanut festival) when I go thru there. It is 41% protein and I use it as a top dressing on feed. maybe when It cools off a bit they will pick up...Ronnies idea of implant is probably a good idea. It starts to cool off about the 15th of September here...then the daytime highs and night time lows begin a long slow descent to first frost..

I had feed everything.Check em several times.Reason If they don't come to feed Then run em in and check them. They need to in a short while Come to feed and try to run over you.The ones that drag up or have to go get Run them through the chute and check temp and dr them. That's how I done it a long time.I feed the new ones twice a day Morning and night What they will clean up.
