Thought For Today – “Pray or Prey….?”
There are a few different catchy tv shows, movies, and sayings that use that word “Prey” isn’t there? There is a tv show called “A Family That Preys,” and then the movie Star Trek had a spaceship used by the Klingons named “The Bird of Prey,” because it could to full stealth mode, rendering it undetectable to enemy radar. With that being said, it is with this train of thought or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Pray or Prey….?” And AMEN goes right here! As I got this thought yesterday afternoon while working on a project, I immediately wondered where I was expected to go with it. Then, just like always, the information to populate this email started flooding my brain. I had so many thoughts going thru my mind, and in such a random order, that I had no idea how they would be pulled together to make a morning devotional that would make any sense! But then God, oh My Lord, My Lord, My God………. The Lord is so Faithful in His Word. And what He says He will do, you can trust and or bet your life on it, that He will do exactly that! He told me a long time ago, that if I would be willing to write them, He would give me the information. And to date, He has done that every single time. In case you don’t understand the usage of the word “Prey,” as it will pertain to this instance, you would first need to define what the dictionary says it means. When I googled the word “Prey,” the definition came back with “an animal that is hunted and killed by another for food.” Now in THIS instance, I’m going to use my reference of being “Prey” as it applies to this “Thought For Today,” metaphorically. In other words, you being hunted and killed “Spiritually,” but then again, if you are “Spiritually killed/dead, then you might as well be physically dead too…Can I get an AMEN right here?
It isn’t much fun being the “Prey” in any situation is it? Having to constantly look over your shoulder, to see if the predator(s) are gaining ground on you, or even worse, have caught up with you already. There are a lot of predators out there in the world today, and they all are guided and or “commanded” by “Author of confusion,” or the forces of darkness and principalities. And don’t be misled, people who have mastered the art of “Preying” are excellent hunters! They are very skilled at knowing their “Prey’s” habits (both good and bad) like the back of their hands. They will then stalk, and even set traps for their prey too! They also knows exactly where to start their hunt for this “Prey” (common good old honest down to earth folks). Satan knew that Eve was the weaker “Prey” to attack, and He also knew that Eve was already vulnerable for two reasons, #1. She was in the area of the Garden of Eden close to the forbidden tree all by herself. #2. He knew that she would be more likely of the two to fall for His deceit as Adam was trying too hard to please God. People why “Prey” are always packing just the right ammo too aren’t they? Look at the ammo and trap He packed for Eve in the Garden of Eden, “doubt?” Then think about the trap/ammo He packed for Adam, “peer pressure” through Eve. Because he loved and adored Eve so much, that when she came to him with the fruit of the forbidden tree, he felt “pressured” to eat of it as to stay in good standing with her. Now this wasn’t exactly explained out, but any man that has a significant other knows when his wife, or girlfriend comes to him and says “Honey, Baby, Darling, Sweetie, Sweetheart, etc…try this and tell me what you think?” it is very hard to resist doing so LOL! (read Genesis 2:4-3:24). As you can see after reading the Biblical verses, Satan did His homework on Adam and Eve down to the very minute detail. This is why His plan worked to perfection against them. What Satan didn’t count on, was that while He was “Preying” on Adam and Eve, God was watching His every move the entire time. Not only that, but God already had a backup plan put in place because He knew Satan would succeed with Adam and Eve. And soon after Satan tricked (not forced, but TRICKED or deceived) Adam and Eve to eat of the forbidden tree, He (God) came down into the Garden of Eden Himself to ask why and then punish them. You see, the minute they ate of the forbidden fruit they became Spiritually CUTOFF from God, because they had sinned. This is why God came looking for them personally. God could have easily not placed the tree in the Garden in the first place, but like with everything else, He gives us the right to choose (Life or Death, Heaven or Hell).
This is where I’m going to throw you for a little loop. You see, had Eve used the power she had in her tongue to rebuke Satan when He came and approached her, she would have never been tempted (aka never would have become “PREY”) in the first place. But for whatever reason, Eve sat there and listened to what the serpent (Satan) had to say, and at that point, He won the battle over her mind by planting a little seed of doubt that she didn’t know everything she could know, and it just kept growing and growing and growing, because her curiosities kept feeding that seed Satan planted in her mind. You see, sometimes in life you are going to be tested by Satan, and if you are naïve enough to give Him a foothold in your mind, then there’s a very good chance He will be successful with His attack(s) on you. This is where the “prAy” comes into effect in the situation. For example, had Eve told Satan “Get The Behind Me Satan, In The Might Name of Jesus Christ, MY Lord and Savior,” then “Prayed” for God to intervene on her behalf, Satan would have surely fled her presence and moved on. Anytime we as Christians have any important decision we need to make, and we don’t “Pray” over the decision first, or ask God if that choice you are about to make is according to HIS will, we are dooming ourselves to make that decision on our own knowledge. And our knowledge is not anywhere near as detailed and informed as God’s. He not only knows what decision you are going to make, but He already knows what the outcome of your decision will be! Why would you not want Him to give you the guidance to make the right decision in the first place when He already knows how it will turn out? Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
Looking back over your life, how many times can you remember being “Prey,” when you could have prevented it, had you only knelt down to “Pray???”
Can I get an Amen????
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for US on the Cross?”
