Morning Thoughts For Today – “I Need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus.”
By Carlos C. Brown
I have no doubt that when some of you read that subject line, your immediate reaction/response was, “I sho do need not a little, but A LOT more Jesus in my life am I right? Everytime I hear that song, I can envision sitting in a church pew hearing it being sang and without warning all of a sudden someone is up and jumping and shouting to the music. It is just “that type” of song, that I can see especially an elderly person feel the Holy Ghost come over them and they get up and start dancing and shouting! On the flip side to that, I can also see that song causing someone younger who might be going thru some “thangs,” to breakdown and burst into uncontrollable tears, not being able to hold the tears and powerful emotions back. That’s what Gospel music, the good old small church in the country kind, does for you. When Erica Campbell who is one half of that mega Grammy winning Gospel duo “Mary, Mary,” sings that song it just literally gets my blood to pumping faster thru my veins for some reason. Maybe it is because that’s what it is supposed to do, or maybe I just feel a powerful connection to the words of the song, who knows. If you’ve never heard the song, go to YouTube and search for it and listen to it. That is one very POWERFUL song in my book. And the reason that it is such a popular and powerful song, is because everyone can relate to its premise, “I Need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus!” That is worthy of an AMEN right here!
Now, unless you were born a few minutes ago, you NEED Jesus! And even if you were just born a few minutes ago, you still need Jesus! And it doesn’t matter what your age is, you WILL always need Jesus in your life. My mind immediately started going to some Biblical occurrences where there were “I Need Jest A Little Mo Jesus” moments. I would like to share a few of them with you if I may? Ummmm let’s see here, at the wedding where they ran out of wine and Jesus turned water into wine. Ummmmm oh, oh, how about when the Disciples were on the boat with Jesus and the storm blew up out of nowhere and started tossing the ship to and fro? The Disciples became very afraid and immediately lost their Faith that Jesus Christ had their backs. What did they do? Well if you know the story, one of them went into the room where Jesus was sleeping, “Lord, Lord, LORD, why you in here sound asleep when we are out here scared for our lives, because of this storm?” Of course I’m paraphrasing, but I can see Jesus Christ being that smooth operator that He is, quietly got up and walked outside on the deck of the boat, looked around calmly at the storm raging, and then at his Disciples and simply said, “Peace Be Still” and all that was going on ceased. The wind stopped blowing, the high seas calmed, the thunder and lightning stopped and it was like nothing the Disciples had ever experienced. They were in total awe of Jesus’s unlimited power, saying “who is THIS man, that even the wind and the seas obey Him?” How about miss Martha, after her brother Lazarus had died and been buried in a tomb for 4 days? She knew that Jesus was the only one that could save her brother and bring him back to life, but Jesus wasn’t anywhere to be found. And then, Jesus showed up, and without any effort at all, brought Lazarus back to life! I’m sure I could go on and on with the examples on people in the Biblical days who experienced what should be known as “I need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus” moments, but I’ll stop there and try to bring it closer to home….
Modern day “I Need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus” moments would include: You or a loved one is suffering from some sort of health condition situation, that seems like there is no cure or relief. You find yourself struggling in your career of choice, aka your job. This was the career you dreamed about being in from way back when you were a young child or teen. You ain’t getting paid what you think you’re worth, and you don’t like your boss, and all of your co-workers seem to be out to get you or stab you in the back at the first opportunity. Sometimes the mind can play very bad tricks on you when you feel like you are not where you want to be in life. You start to question everything, and everyone who is a part of your life in any capacity. You don’t feel the Holy Spirit in your Church that you attend Sunday after Sunday, yet you continue to go. Your kids won’t mind you, and they are constantly giving you all kinds of grief everyday of the week. Your relationship or your marriage is in shambles, and you don’t know which way to turn. All you can think about is how happy you once were, and how everything in your life seemed like it was on the right track and going in the right direction, and then BOOM total CHAOS!!! Your life long since pee wee high best friend(s) have turned into enemies, even some of your very own family members in your mind have turned on you and become enemies. You practice hard at home every chance you get to perfect your skills in whatever sport, hobby, etc.. you are competing or performing in keeps ending in complete failure. You find yourself in a constant state of depression and have no clue why. Just like with the Biblical examples, I could go on and on and on with the real life close to home today examples, but I think you have a very clear picture of what I’m getting at. The human race places limits on God all day everyday, heck some people don’t even believe He exists at all if you can believe that? The negativity we speak even when we don’t realize we are doing it, causes more disastrous results in our lives just because we didn’t think to take ALL of those cares to God on the front end, as opposed to the back, when you were down to nothing, running on “E” Faith wise, and have given up all hope. The Bible teaches us that there is POWER in the tongue! It has the power to speak LIFE, and it also has the power to speak DEATH. (read Proverbs 18:21) It took you suffering all that unnecessary pain, drama, disgust, etc…before the light went off in your head that this is a “I Need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus” moment! Can I leave you with a question to ponder today????
“What is keeping YOU from turning all of your “I Need Jest A Lil Mo Jesus” moments over to Him”????
Can I get an Amen???
Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ!
