A Christian Cowboy Perspective:
Thoughts For Today – “The Principle of Exception…”
“You cannot be “Exceptional” and have ordinary battles!” – Pastor Ron Carpenter in his series “Distinction.” How many of my readers right now has ever felt like they were different (in a good way) from all of the rest of the people they encounter on a day today day basis?” Now notice I said “different,” not better. Just to be clear, when I say “different,” I mean that you hold yourself to a higher standard of principles, morals, and character than the world? I don’t mean that you think you are this type of person, but that it has been confirmed even by other people either in your circle or that you come into contact with during your day to day walk of life? I see a few virtual hands go up, but not as many as I had hoped. Why? Because it takes way too much discipline to maintain that type of lifestyle on a daily or consistent basis doesn’t it? However, when you do have the anointing of God over your life, it also comes with a protection or “Spiritual Covering” that will protect you from some things that other people are not protected from. In other words, what happens to everyone else does not happen to you… It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about “The Principle of Exception.” And AMEN goes right here! Now when we start to discuss the word “Exception,” we must first define it in order to completely and fully understand it. The dictionary definition of that word is as follows : “The act of excepting or the fact of being excepted. An instance or case not conforming to the general rule. An adverse criticism, especially on a particular point; opposition of opinion; objection; demurral;” To make this definition a little more understandable or clearer to you, it means something or “someone” who does NOT conform to the norm that everyone else is, such as a born again Christian versus worldly people. Now understand, that just because you have an anointing (a God given skill or talent) aka “Exception” over your life, that doesn’t mean that you are oblivious to having problems like the worldly folks do, no yours will be in most cases way worse. In his series “Distinction,” Pastor Carpenter also stated that “Exceptional” people face those life altering or life changing battles, while everyone else is experiencing normal or everday common ones (being stuck in traffic and late to work, kids being unruly or disobedient, your best friend is mad at you, or your significant other said or did something hurtful to you, maybe you are low on funds this month, maybe you are dealing with sometype of health issue?). Those would all fall under normal or regular battles everyday people might face. However, when you are Anointed or “Exceptional,” the battles you face make those mentioned previously seem like a cake walk in the park on a cool sunshiny day! And AMEN goes right here too!
Here are some Biblical examples of “Exceptional” people in the Bible who faced some battles that would have taken the average person out at just the thought of having to deal with them……..How about Adam Think about the responsibility God placed on his life from day one? He was asked to be the ruler over the Garden of Eden, name every creature that swam in the sea, crawled on the land, or soared in their air, and every plant that came out of the ground. His battle, was to rule Earth like God ruled Heaven all while having to deal with an angry, spiteful Satan at the same time (read the book of Genesis) I don’t think there is anyone who could dispute that Adam indeed was an “Exceptional” individual. The next person in the Bible that comes to mind would be Noah. You remember him don’t you? He was tabbed by God to build the great Ark for him and his immediate family, plus 1 ea. male and female animal of every kind on the entire Earth to be able to survive the impending great flood that God was getting ready to send. Noah was also “Exceptional” in that he and his family were only a few who tried to live by God’s commandments. Also because it would normally take an army of strong men to complete the task of building the Ark no telling how long, but Noah did it with just his small family. Think about how hard it had to be first to complete that Ark, then second to go out and find 2 of each male and female species of animals on the entire earth for repopulation purposes. (read Genesis 5: 32 – 10: 1 verses). The next person that comes to mind during the Biblical days is young David. He was perceived my most as just an ordinary, everyday, average shepherd boy who was nobody special. Even his own father didn’t see anything special about him when the prophet Samuel came to anoint the next King of Israel. It wasn’t until Samuel had checked each of Jesse’s other sons and not seeing they anointing in any of them that he had to ask, “Is this it? Do you have anymore sons? That Jesse reluctantly sent for David.” Now if you don’t know the story about David, even as a young boy, David was known for killing bears, lions and tigers while guarding his father’s sheep. That alone qualifies David for the category of being “Exceptional,” but one of his greatest battles that would definitely set him apart from the average person, was when he went up again the Philistine giant Goliath with just a sling and three smooth rocks.” How many of you reading this would have taken on Goliath in battle after seeing how big and strong he was? I’m guessing not many if any at all with the reputation for battle he had. David reigned for forty years as King of Judah. (read 1 Samuel 16 chapter).
Of course we can’t leave out King Solomon, the tenth son of Kind David and the second son of Bathsheba. King Solomon was most regarded as being the richest and most wisest person in the entire Bible (besides Jesus Christ of course). He also reigned for over forty years over Israel and it is said to have been one of the most prosperous periods in Israel’s history, becoming known as or referred to as “The Golden Age.” It is also said that King Solomon received 25 tons of gold for each of the 39 years of his reign. That would translate to $2.2 TRILLION dollars in this day and age! He definitely has to fall into the category of being “Exceptional” for these great feats! He is also known for ruling with unlimited wisdom, and securing stability through treaties with foreign powers. He is also known for building the Temple of Lord in Jerusalem. King Solomon also faced extraordinary battles as well like the ones mentioned above before him. It is said, that his downfall was the fact that he had over 700 wives and 300 concubines. It is hard enough to keep one woman happy and not wanting to beat you upside your head with a frying pan, imagine having to deal with over a thousand of them LOL! It is said, that King Solomon had all but lost his mind dealing with that many wives at the time of his death. That is a battle that “I” want absolutely NOTHING to do with LOL! But seriously, I would again like to ask you the same question I asked in the beginning of this message: “How many of you reading this feel now you are “Exceptional” in comparison to the people I have listed above? Reading about them makes the day to day battles we face seem very petty and unimportant don’t they? However, those of you reading this (like myself) who can relate to them because we ARE “anointed” and are living and manifesting our anointing, we do face battles that are anything BUT “ordinary” in nature. If I were to tell you some of the battles I have faced in my life over the years, some of you I guarantee would wonder how I am still sane and even alive! I feel it is due to the fact that God is using me to accomplish His will, and because of that I have “The Blood of Jesus Christ” covering me and also my family. There is just no other explanation that could explain some of the things I have survived up to this point in my life. And last but not least, we have to mention Jesus Christ in this category of “Exception” as well. Think of all the great and unbelievable miracles He accomplished in His 33 years on Earth? Now, think of the unfathomable battles He also faced that would have destroyed the average man or woman? I would like to leave you with a question to ponder if I may?
“If you wasn’t one of the ones who raised their hands at the first question I asked at that beginning, WHY are you not trying to figure out what YOUR anointing (Exception) and purpose in the Kingdom of Heaven is? It would at least make the battles you face worth-while knowing you were dealing with them for the Kingdom of Heaven!
Can I get an AMEN????
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for US on the Cross?”
