A Christian Cowboy Perspective:
Thought For Today – “Can You Hear Me Now?”
I’m sure you have at one time or another seen that cell phone commercial where a guy goes thru all kinds of extremes to test his company’s cellular range and clarity. Walking thru tunnels, in closets, up high on mountain tops and even in the jungles too. It is a pretty corny commercial but definitely after seeing it a few times becomes quite amusing in a stupid slapstick kind of way. The commercial is designed to convince you to switch over to that carriers service. It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Can You Hear me Now?” And AMEN goes right here! The more I think about that commercial, the more I keep associating it with God trying to get our attention. With my “Cowboy” way of seeing and relating things a little differently, I can picture Him in my mind sitting up there in Heaven on His throne trying to figure out ways to get our attention and keep it. I can see Him saying something to the effect of, “Hey, can you hear me now Carlos? Helloooooo, I’m trying to talk to you, I asked if you can you hear me now? What about now? Oh so you can’t hear me now huh, oh I have ways of getting your attention!” And the next thing I know, there’s a HUGE “life storm” aka drama, chaos, adversity, hurt, pain, or trouble, etc… knocking at my doorstep! One thing is for sure, when God wants to get our attention, He has some very effective ways of making this happen doesn’t He? And before I know it, I’m responding to Him, “Lord, Lord, here I am, I’m here Lord, I need you Lord, I need you right now Lord, please come and help me Lord, I’m sorry I wasn’t listening earlier when You were calling on me, PLEASE forgive me, I’m ready to listen now Lord.” His response, and Him trying not to laugh too hard, “Oh I knew you’d start listening after that storm paid you a visit, so you need Me now huh? Well I’ve been trying to get your attention for a while now! All those sleepless nights where you had so much on your mind and you thought that was why you couldn’t sleep, Nooooooooo that was Me using that to get your attention! Now that I have it, let’s have a sitdown and talking about what’s really going on in your life….”
And that is where in real life, the commercial would end, because when God feels the need to have to get our attention to hear or see what it is He’s trying to tell us, He has very effect ways. And that’s when it gets very real in our lives. Think back to some examples of when God felt the need to get certain people’s attention in the Biblical days, when He didn’t feel they could hear Him. #1. Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden after they had eaten of the forbidden fruit? When He personally came down into the garden of Eden and called out to them they at first hid because they knew they had done wrong. What about Him destroying Sodom and Gomorrah because of their sinful ways? He sent warnings trying to get them to change their ways, but to no avail? How about sending rain for 40 days and 40 nights straight, flooding the entire earth and every living creature on it, because He had grown so tired of the lack of Godliness He saw in the world? Probably the best one of all, involved His’ “chosen” people. The Israelites were made to wander around in the wilderness for 40 long years, when they strayed away from His Commandments AFTER being freed from slavery under Pharaoh in Egypt! Those are just a few examples of God trying to get people’s attention and when it didn’t happen, He became very angry, and “life storms” started to show up ironically in those very people’s lives. Here’s something you need to know about storms, they are going to come nomatter how much you try to avoid them! And God Himself isn’t sending those storms, Satan is. However, if you’ve turned away from God then you just might have lost His protection from the storms that are headed your way! Another very important thing you need to know, is that they will ALWAYS more times than not make you seek God out for refuge. One more very important thing about storms, is that you have NO control over how long they stay with you. However, you do have control over how you’ve view them. They are a whole lot easier to endure when you are back in God’s good graces and know that He’s right by your side! He might not block the effects of the storms, but He will strengthen you to endure them. The last thing is, they are designed to change you for the better! That is one of the main reasons why He doesn’t block every storm from our path. Some of them He allowed to reach us to change us in some way. And AMEN goes right here too!
To bring this even closer to this day and age, God will make sure you hear Him when He’s trying to get your attention. And His methods are always successful. Sometimes He uses tragedies to get a person’s attention. Other times, He will allow you to strike out on your own (straying away from Him and not keeping His Commandments) and when you hit rock bottom, isn’t it amazing how you are always much more willing to “hear Him then”? There is not a worse feeling (for me at least) in the world than to know in my heart, that I’m not living according to His commandments and then wonder “why does these bad things keep happening to me?” You already know the answer, but doing something about it, is a whole different matter isn’t it? What we fail to realize, is that God has eternity to do whatever He chooses to do. He doesn’t have to get in a hurry to do anything. More importantly, He never has to work according to our timetable, it just doesn’t work that way. So when you are trying to ignore Him calling you next time, remember that He can play that same game and a lot better than you can! If you know He’s calling out for you, “Can you hear Me now, can you hear Me now, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW My child?” You better answer Him right then or suffer the consequences! Can I leave you with a question to ponder today???
“Is God trying to get your attention right now? “Carlos, can you hear Me now? Hellooooo, I said CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?????”
Can I get an Amen???
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what HE did for US on the Cross?”
