Thoughts For Today – “Which Man/Woman Are You…?”
Hello again, I hope that you are having a great week so far? I would like to share with you a message that I heard a couple of weeks ago. The message subject title was, “Which Man Am I?” and the speaker was Matt Mosler. Many of you in the state of Arkansas will probably recognize this name as he is/was a local news anchorman for one of the local television news stations. His message had to do with the parable of the two men who built houses (one on a rock and the other on sand). I took his message step further to include women as well. Not to take away from Matt’s message of the Man being the head/leader of the house and how important it is for him to lead his house based on Godly principals, but that it is just as important for women to make wise decisions as well. With that being said, it is with this train of thought or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Which Man/Woman Are You…?” And AMEN goes right here! Matt made a very powerful statement about the importance of man from the very beginning when he said, “after Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, God came down into the Garden Himself to see Adam.” He could have sent one of His angels, but this was such a serious offense that He felt the need to deal with Adam face to face. That within itself is a very powerful statement. But I want to also point out that although God held Adam more responsible if you will, He didn’t let Eve totally off the hook for her actions. Eve knew very well beforehand what would happen if she disobeyed God on the one hand, and what would happen if she ate of the forbidden fruit. God had already told them what would happen. When Eve ate of the forbidden fruit despite God’s warning, she made what I like to call “a business decision.” Meaning she had motives and selfish intentions for doing so. The serpent (aka Satan) convinced her that she would know all that God knows in both “Good and Evil.” Her motive was to know as much as God knew, when God didn’t want that for her nor Adam. This is a good place to reiterate that sometimes we have to just accept that God knows what is best for us and trust Him without having to question or challenge His will for our lives by “doing our own thing.”
Now, in getting back to the subject title of “Which Man/Woman Are You…?” The parable goes like this. (Matthew 7:24-27 verses) There were two men who chose to build a house. The first man built his house upon a rock. He had to work twice as hard building on such a hard surface as it would take to build on regular ground. The second man decided to build his house upon the sand. He was in a rush to get his house completed and decided to take a shortcut and also a huge risk in choosing the sand as opposed to a more firm and solid foundation. There are some very powerful warnings in both of these two examples to take note of. #1. These two situations are not just talking about building houses. They are also talking about building foundations (good or bad) for life, relationships, Religion, and Families too! #2. If you don’t choose solid foundations in every aspect of your life, you will be subjected to every storm you face large or small that comes your way. #3. Both men were from the same town, same society, attended the same Church and one can assume even the same community. Yet had totally different ideas of what a solid foundation was. The irony in this, is that I’m sure everyone reading this message knows someone who nomatter how much logic there is in a situation, there is always one person who will choose to ignore it. #4. A wise man will act on the word of God whereas a fool will ignore it. #5. A wise man does not compromise the Word of God….PERIOD. #5. It very important that you anchor your house (home, family, life, children, Religion, etc…) on God’s Word. Believe it or not, “you can cancel the Word of God for the sake of your own tradition.” Matthew 7:24. Last but not least, #6. Your foundation will determine your future! If you build your foundation on solid ground (The Word of God) you can be confident that your foundation will withstand the storms that will come, (not might, but WILL come) nomatter how strong the winds blow and nomatter how hard waves crash against it. AMEN also goes right here too!
Now that I have laid the foundation if you will, of the two choices you have to base your decision off of, if you are being totally and completely honest, “Which Man/Woman Are You?” Are you the one that constantly looks for shortcuts in every aspect of your life? Or are you the one who tries to carefully plan out your steps of building your home based off of the Word of God? As you can see from the message above, it pays to be like the wise man who built his house on a solid foundation. Why? Because when the winds, rain, and storms came, his house was still standing. However, the foolish man’s house that was built upon the sand crumbled and was consumed by the storm! Pastor Matt Mosler also listed 4 different meanings of the word “House” as it is related to this parable. There are as follows: #1. House =Life. Build your life on a solid foundation. #2. House –Family. Make sure your family has a very solid foundation of Love, Respect, Character, and a strong relationship with God. #3. House = Ministry. Make sure your Ministry is based on the principals of God and His Holy Word. #4. House = Society. Never allow yourself to conform to this worldly (Society) beliefs, ways, practices, habits, but stay focused on God’s Holy Word and Commandments. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“Which Man/Woman Are You…?” Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for US on the Cross?”
