Thoughts For Today – “What Is Your God Given Gift??”
By a show of virtual hands, how many of you reading this message right now believes that you have a special gift? Hmmmmm, I see quite a few hands going up and some that went up and then quickly jerked back down. Was that because you were unsure if you had one or not, or just that you felt you didn’t? Those of you who have followed my Ministry for years know that I have written Devotionals before dealing with Gifts or “Skills” given to us by God. In this message, I hope to try and help you not only be able to identify what your God given gift really is, but also point out if you are using it properly. So with that being said, it is with this train of thought or line of thinking that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “What Is Your God Given Gift?” And AMEN goes right here! Now in order to clearly know what I mean when I reference or speak of a “Gift,” I feel it is very important to define what exactly a gift is. The Webster’s dictionary definition of the word “Gift” is as follows : “A thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present. A natural ability or talent.” Now that we’ve defined the word “Gift” lets look at some Biblical examples dealing with it. First, there are said to be 7 gifts from God: #1. Wisdom. #2. Understanding. #3. Counsel. #4. Fortitude. #5. Knowledge. #6. Piety. #7. Fear of the Lord. However, those are not the only “gifts” that God has blessed us with. Not every person will have the same gift either. Some people will have musical talents, while others will have artistic talents. Yet other people will have an over abundance of strength, speed, and jumping high. Other people might have gifts of being able to solve mathmatical equations, formulas, and even scientific problems. You might see professional athletes accomplishing great feats like Michael Jordan being able to not only jump really high in the air, but hang and float with a basketball for long periods of time. A Major League Baseball pitcher being able to throw a baseball in excess of 100+ miles per hour accurately. A Bullrider being able to stay on the rankest bulls for 8 seconds consistently. A professional golfer being able to hit the ball for hundreds of yards and drop the ball right at or even in the hole for far off. I think you where I’m going with this right? The best way to realize or recognize what YOUR “God Given Gift Is,” all you need to do is think about what you are passionate about. Your “Gift” will be tied to that thing you are passionate about. Do you obscess over organizational habits in a situation? That is a sign of an Administration “Gift.” Are you gifted in playing a musical instrument? Do you obscess over following procedures and rules? Do you have a very warm and inviting personality? That screams being in the customer service field. Whatever you are passionate about is the first clue to what your God Given Gift and Destiny is tied to!
Next I would like to give you some people during the Biblical times who had special “Gifts” and how they used them. The first one that comes to mind would have to be Adam. When God created Adam, He created him to rule over Eden and the rest of the Earth as well, like He (God) did in Heaven. God actually created Adam in His likeness (meaning to be just like or similar to Him). Adam also had the power to speak and whatever he spoke, it came to be. He was tasked with naming every plant, animal that walked upon the earth, swam in the sea, and all the fowls of the air. He could literally speak anything, healing, curses, etc…and Heaven would back up his words. The million dollar question is, “what happened?” Well, he lost this “Gift” when he and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” (read the book of Genesis). The next person in the Bible that comes to mind is Sampson (read Judges chapter 13-16). Sampson was a legendary Israelite warrior and divinely inspired leader. He has always been dipicted in artist illustrations as looking like a sculptured body builder, when in reality he actually looked like “Peewee Herman or Barney Fife.”Why else would everyone be so amazed at his strength if he looked like Hercules? No, it was because he didn’t look strong at all physically, yet he was one of the strongest men mentioned in the Bible, ever. He was blessed from birth with incredible strength to be a protector for Israel. What happened to Sampson? Well, like so many famous men, he allowed a beautiful woman to convince him to tell her the secret to his great strength. She then told the Philistines and they paid her to seduce him and then cut his hair, removing all of his strength. He was then taken and put into slavery and eventually prison. He was beaten and his eyes gouged out. Realizing that he had made the mistake of forgetting that it was God not him that was the source of his strength, Sampson asked God to bless him with it one more time so that he could right his wrong. God obliged him, and Samspon tore down the support pillars of the Philistine temple killing himself and all the Philistines there with him.
The next person that comes to mind, is King David. He was the youngest son of Jesse and Nitzevet and a shepherd boy who tended his fathers flock. He had a “Gift” of musical talents, which later on gained him fame and favor to King Saul. David also had a “Gift” even at an early age of being a true fearless warrior. It is said, that he would kill loins, bears, and even wolves when he was just a teenager! His life changed drastically when he went to take food to his brothers who were in the Israelite army gettting ready to engage into battle with the Philistines. When he arrived, he saw the Philistine Giant “Goliath” taunting the Israelite army, and they were all afraid of him. Not one single Israelite soldier would engage in battle with him. David hearing the insult Goliath shouted about God, volunteered to fight him. All David took onto the battlefield with him was a sling and three smooth stones. Goliath charged young David telling him who he was going to kill him and drag his body around behind his chariot afterwards. David killed Goliath with his sling by hitthing him dead center in the head, and the rest as they say is history! After that incident, God sent a prophet named Samuel to anoint David as the next king of Israel, God then sends an evil spirit to King Saul to torment him. Saul’s servants recommends that he send for a man skilled in playing the lyre. That is when young David was brought to the palace and was allowed to live there. David then befriended King Saul’s son. King Saul and his son is killed in an attack, and young David was crowned King. What happened to David? He fell in love with a married woman, Bathsheba whom he was bathing nude from the rooftop of his palace. He sends for her and takes her to his bed, thust committing adultry. He didn’t stop there, he had her husband who was soldier in his arm killed so that he could marry her. What do all of these men have in common? The answer would be, that they all were blessed with incredible gifts from God to be used to glorify His Holy name, and the advancement of the Kingdom of Heaven and they all fell victim when they stopped using them for the purpose that it was intended! This would be a very good time to ask the question, “What is your God Given Gift?” Well mine, is the gift of “Creative Speaking and Writing.” And YES, I have been using it to Glorify the Lord. As many of you know, I have authored a book called “The Third Eye Perspective,” and I have been writing devotionals for over 18 straight years now. I share them with thousands of people each morning via Email, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and a certain select few friends and family via text. Do I think I am using my “Gift” to the fullest potential? NO! I am always looking for new ways to expand my gift to Glorify Jesus Christ’s name. Can I ask you a life changing question if I you don’t mind?
“What is YOUR God Given Gift, and are you using it for the advancement of the Kingdom?” Everyone has as “gift” that you were Blessed with from birth. You may not have realized what it is yet, but you DO have one, maybe even multiple ones! I challenge you today to figure out,or work to perfect your gift to be used to Glorify our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for US on the Cross?”
