The Christian Cowboy Perspective:
Thought For Today – “Are You An Asset or A Liability To The Lord”?
Good morning again! How are you doing on this “Humpity Hump” day, good and very Blessed I hope?” By a show of virtual hands, how many of you consider yourselves to be an “Asset” to your significant other if you have one, or your children, your family, your Church family, your friends and especially your “Bestie,” and even your job? Anyone, anyone? Hmmnnnnnnn, I see a lot of hands flying up all over the place! That’s pretty awesome, I don’t think there is anyone that didn’t raise their hands! Now, I’m going to throw you one of my famous curveballs, “How many of you think you are an asset to the Lord???? Yikes!!! Not very many hands are up on this one at all. Are you sure you’re not an asset to the Lord in some way form or fashioned? I was hoping that there would be just as many, if not more hands up on this question as the previous one! It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart today to talk about, “Are You An ASSET or Liability To The Lord?” And AMEN goes right here! Today I would like to talk about our purpose in life with regards to The Kingdom of Heaven. The definition of “Asset” goes as follows: a useful and desirable thing or quality. And the definition of a “Liability” is: something disadvantageous. Ok so now that we got the definitions out of the way, lets break them down a little further. If you are an “Asset,” that means you basically have value to something or someone. While on the other hand, “Liability” means you are just the opposite, you add no value to anyone or anything. And when it comes to The Kingdom of Heaven, if you are not an asset then the only other choice or option left is a liability. A “Liability” would be defined as wandering around in the world without any direction, or any real purpose in life. You would may be frustrated or complaining about what you don’t have, and you are constantly trying to satisfy deep voids in your heart that in reality, only God can fill. A lack of Faith usually results in never happy or satisfied with anything, constantly negative, mean or contrite, always trying to get the upper hand on other people, never doing anything positive or uplifting for anyone but yourself, conceited, selfish, lazy, and just downright evil! You offer no benefit whatsoever to the Kingdom of Heaven! That is NOT a very good mindset to be in, and it definitely isn’t what God intended for us either.
Let’s deal with this topic of “Liability” first, because you need to know why being a liability is bad for your Spiritual growth, and especially future. In keeping with my normal routine of giving examples from the Biblical days of scenarios, stories, or occurrences that line up with my topics let’s discuss some people who were “Liabilities” to the Kingdom of Heaven back in those days: After Lucifer (aka Satan, aka the Devil, aka the feller with the long pointed tail, horns, long gross looking fingernails, with claws on his feet, red skin, fiery yellow eyes, and vampire teeth….all of which is totally nothing but a dreamed up description LOL for Hollywood might I add….) was booted out of Heaven, he immediately became a liability to God. Why, because he basically went from being God’s Minister of Music and His right-hand man (Angel) to his enemy. That within itself definitely qualifies as a huge “Liability” because you NEVER want to find yourself on the other side of the fence from God. God has NO enemies, and YES you read that right! It is NOT possible for God to have any enemies, because God is UNDEFEATED and there isn’t any worthy adversary that can defeat Him. When Lucifer was still an Angel in Heaven, he rebelled against God, along with 1/3 of the other Angels in Heaven whom he had convinced to join him in his rebellion. The Bible states they were all kicked out of Heaven and it happened without God even batting an eye. What about Adam and Eve’s plunder in the Garden of Eden? Would disobeying the Lord, which resulted in the downfall of the human race from God’s Grace not qualify also? Now I know that some of the Biblical scholars are probably thinking something along the lines of “well Adam and Eve were forgiven of that mistake?” Or, “They were allowed to go on living and even pro-creating the human race which would be an “Asset” as opposed to an “Liability?” And that’s a very valid argument too! However, think about it from this point of view, how much easier would our Christian walk today be had they not disobeyed God in the first place? The reason I say they became a “liability,” is because they were made to experience hardships such as death, pain, storms, sadness, hard work just to survive, when God intended them to live in a parallel to how Heaven operates. That is why God created “The Garden of Eden,” it was designed by God to be pretty much identical to Heaven and operate the same. Only with the intention of Adam ruling Earth/Eden like God did Heaven. Here’s another one, Judas and his betrayal of Jesus Christ. You know the story, and if not then read Luke Chapter 22 (starting with verse #1). In the book of Luke it says that “The chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the twelve. (4) And Judas went to the chief of priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.(5 ) They were delighted and agreed to give him money. (6) He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.” Surely that qualifies Judas as an “Liability” does it not? One more, “The Israelites, for the longest they were “Liabilities” to the Lord because they were His “chosen” people. Yet they seem to have forgotten that fact time and time again over the course of history. Among other things, ending up in enslavement for 400 years, then once freed from that, they were made to wander around in the wilderness for 40 more long years because they took their eyes off God after He sent Moses to rescue them from Pharaoh’s wrath. That qualifies them to fit into the “Liability” category/group….
Okay, okay, that’s enough of the liability examples, that was starting to get pretty depressing to me. Now let’s talk about “Assets” from the Biblical days. My first “Asset Award” goes to Mary and Joseph, chosen by God to be Jesus’ parents. Now that’s an example of a very big “Asset” to the Kingdom of Heaven! Then we have Noah, he did everything that the Lord in Heaven asked him to do and he and his family were rewarded with “life” after the great flood! But not only did Noah and his family live righteous, as if that wasn’t enough to land them on the “Asset” list, no they also were tasked to build the great Ark that God told them to build which some scholars say took over 100 years to complete. Then they were tasked to go out and captured two of each species of animals on earth to re-populate the earth after the flood to carry with them on the great Ark. Next on my list would be Moses, God used him to be his spokesperson to the people of Israel as well as to a few others. It was Moses if you remember, who went to the Pharaoh and told him the famous phrase “Let My People Go.” Let me see here, ummmmmm oh and how about young David? He was just a young boy (physically) when he was called upon to be an “Asset” for the Kingdom of Heaven, when he slew Goliath with just three smooth stones and a sling. But the best and most influential “Asset” of all that the Kingdom of Heaven has ever utilized and still continue to utilize today is Jesus Christ! God used Him back in the days when the Bible was being written, all the way up until this very moment that I’m typing this devotional! God used Jesus to Preach the Gospel, and used Him to heal the sick, and even raise the dead, to make the blind see, the lame walk, the dumb talk, and Jesus’ best asset of all, to die on the Cross for your sins and mine, past, present, and even future ones! Not only that, but to give us the “Right Hand of Fellowship to the Tree of Life.” In other words, Christ’s death on the Cross gave us a way to gain Salvation and access to Heaven. So, with that being said, what are YOU doing for the Kingdom of Heaven? Are you trying to lead the lost to the Cross? Are you cheerfully offering Spiritual encouragement, Prayer, and other forms of Blessings to others, OR are you one of those that fall into the “Liability” category/group? If you are not sure which group you fall into, then it is pretty safe to assume that you most likely fall into the “Liability” group, always negative, selfish, arrogant, self-loathing, Spiritually lazy, Jealous of others, mean, hateful, etc…..or if you do anything in the name of God, it is just so you can hold it over the person’s head, or brag to other’s about it, or “pat yourself on the back about it,” then you are still a “Liability.” Remember, God tells us He wants us to be HUMBLE nomatter how HIGH we climb the success ladder, or how wealthy we become, in other words use your successes to Glorify Him not yourself. Can I leave you with a question today to ponder?
Now that you’ve had it explained to you the differences, “ARE YOU AN ASSET OR A LIABILITY TO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN?????????
Can I get an Amen????
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ!”
