The Christian Cowboy Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “A New Beginning…”
Good morning again Peeps! Today’s message will mark a change in the title of my ministry. I made the mistake of not researching my ministry title “The Third Eye Perspective” and that appears to be a huge mistake at that on my part. Never in a million years did I ever think anyone would associate an honest and innocent attempt to just share the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with some other so-called “eastern” religion that does not glorify God! So with deep consideration and lots of Prayers, I have decided to rename it “The Christian Cowboy Perspective” Ministry. Hopefully no one will misinterpret that title in any way form or fashion. In an attempt to not give the previous mistake anymore publicity than it deserves, I won’t reference it here. If you feel so inclined to research what the “Third Eye Perspective” represents, feel free to go and google it. And here are some Bible verses associated with warning against it (Genesis 3:5-7) “For God doth know…then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as Gods…knowing Good and Evil…..And the eyes of the both opened.” It was also pointed out to me that that the Hebrew word for “eyes” is not plural but singular. So what the serpent said was that the “eye” would be broadened by knowledge. Scripture here is not talking about the physical organ, but the eye of the soul. Therefore, opening yourself up or opening your “third eye” is the same as this person put it. Said it is “opening a gate between two worlds. (yeah this is getting real deep isn’t it?) They went on to say that Meditation is a sure way of accomplishing this opening up of yourself especially though contemplative prayer. This is simply meditation masked with Christian terminology. The fear that accompanies entrance into deep meditative levels is there for a reason…..it is a warning from God.” This person said that they had been reading a book by Samuel Sagan called “The Awakening of the Third Eye.” It immediately states that meditation is not for relaxation, and that the “third eye” is the gate that leads within.” Now understand, I am not allowing someone’s opinion to change my entire ministry, just the title as it is associated with something God warned against. My purpose, my message style, delivery, and everything else will continue to be the same as it was.
This whole subject matter got me to thinking about changes, differences and especially “New Beginnings.” The more I thought about it the more I realized that changing my ministry’s title was the right thing to do. It got me to thinking about some of the people in the Bible who all experienced “New Beginnings.” The first one that comes to mind, is Noah. Oh surely you remember Noah in the Bible? Some people might remember him as a drunk, a partaker of the spirits? However what Noah is really known for is being a Righteous man, in a world that was anything and everything but that. Noah lived in a time in the Biblical times where people lives way longer than they do today. The Bible states that Noah was 500 years old (yep you read that right) when he fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (read Genesis 5:32). This is not all that Noah was known for, as he was also tabbed by God to repopulate the earth after the great flood. He instructed Noah to build a great Arch that was big enough to hold two each of every animal that walked upon the earth, or flew in the sky. As miraculous as it was for Noah to live over 500 years and still be fathering children, but being asked to repopulate the earth after God destroyed it with a great flood is a huge feat. The Bible states that it took him somewhere around 100 years to build the Arch. After the Arch was completed it started to rain, and rain, and rain, and rain some more for 40 straight days and 40 nights, until the earth as we know it was flooded. All of the people who ridiculed Noah and his family for building the Arch were drowned in the great flood. Noah and his family had the task of repopulating the earth, in other words “A New Beginning.” The next person or group of people that comes to mind to experience “A New Beginning,” are the Israelites. After Moses convinced Pharaoh to let the Israelites go from their bondage in Egypt, and after their 40 years spent in the wilderness just outside of the borders of their “Promised Land” aka Canaan, they were blessed with “A New Beginning” also. I could also mention the Prodigals son’s return home after going out into the world at an early age to see the sights with his share of his father’s inheritance. As the story would go, he squandered it like some many people nowadays do when they were not prepared to receive such large amounts of money after living a poor or modest life up to that point. The Prodigal’s son received a second chance or “A New Beginning” with his father welcoming him with open arms and treating him as if he never left in the first place.
In bringing this closer to home, it really and truly is “A New Beginning” for me in changing the name of my ministry. As I have mentioned before, I have been sharing the word of God for over 18 going on 19 years faithfully each morning, with hundreds maybe even thousands of family, friends, co-workers, and even total strangers via the world wide web. Despite the reasoning for changing the name of it, God knows my heart and that I never had any other religion besides Christianity in mind when I was sharing it all these years. I have asked for His forgiveness in that my intentions in choosing the previous name were just and not tainted. As the old saying goes, “when you know better you do better” and that is my goal right now to do a better job of making sure my message doesn’t have anytype of negative or un-Christlike tones associated with it. My only goal is to take the word of God from the Bible and break it down plain enough where anyone can understand it by associating it with everyday life experiences. I do hope and Pray that everyone who has been blessed by my ministry up to this point will continue to be blessed by it moving forward. I have never tried to present myself as being perfect in any way form or fashion, and this previous mistake with my ministry title was a prime example of my imperfection. However, I won’t dwell on that mistake regardless of how severe it was/or is as I have asked the only person that truly matters to forgive me for the poor choice of descriptive title. New beginnings are a huge part or way of life for the Christian believers. God knows we will make mistakes constantly, that is something none of us can avoid. However, it is what we do after we realize we’ve made a mistake that counts in God’s eyes. Did you continue down the same path, or did you make a U-Turn to try and right you wrong? I am choosing to make a U-Turn and try and fix or correct my wrong turn, and I will leave everything else up to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who ironically is the only one who can Judge me! What is also ironic, is that I went over 18 years of sharing my Devotional messages before anyone pointed out or associated my ministry name with some “eastern religion” that I have never been, or ever will be associated with. I hope and Pray that is because my readers were more focused on the message as opposed to the message title and the messenger. The Bible says in Isaiah 55:11, “God’s word NEVER returns back void,” and I know by the countless testimonies that has been shared with me privately over the past 18 years confirms that to be 110% true. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today?
“Are in need of, or experiencing a “New Beginning” in your life? If you are in need of one, what is holding you back? If you are already experiencing one, is it not the best feeling in the world knowing you have the opportunity to have a “Do Over?” Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what He did for US on the CROSS????
