The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “The Three Wise Men”
Hello again! If you would, please turn with me in your Bibles to Matthew 2: 1-13. In this particular grouping of verses we learn about the three wise me that visited newly born Jesus Christ and to bring Him gifts. For those Biblical scholars, some versions vary on how many wise men there were. There could have been more, way more than three. Now if you read those verses carefully, you learned that the three wise men were not the only ones who had an interest in the newborn baby Jesus. As they passed through his country, they were sought out by King Herod who asked to speak to them privately. Once alone, he asked them to send word once they had found the new born King Jesus location. Once the wise men had found Jesus, Mary, and Joseph they fell down and Worshipped baby Jesus and then presented Him with their gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. God warned them not to return to King Herod’s country after their visit with Jesus, so they took a different route back to their prospective countries. God then sent an angel to warn Joseph in a dream to take Mary and Jesus and flee into Egypt until He sent word, for Herod was planning on destroying Jesus if he found His location. It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “The Three Wise Men.” And AMEN goes right here! In order to truly understand the meaning of the “Wise Men” description, we must first define it. The dictionary definition of the word “Wise” is as follows : “having or showing experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” So with that being said, you have three (or however many there was) men of experience, knowledge and good judgment who wanted to meet the new King knows as baby Jesus. A lot can be learned from this display they showed Jesus Christ. First, they traveled a great distance to seek Him out after hearing about His birth. Next, after they found Him, the fell down on their knees and worshipped Him. Then, the presented Him with gifts. Now watch this, the last thing they did was to protect Him from king Herod by not revealing to him Jesus’ location. Now, to bring this a little closer to home, let me tell you about a recent experience I had…
So as you may or may not know, I recently had a book publish (yeah I know right!!! LOL!) titled “The Third Eye Perspective.” First let me state, that the title or name of my book does not in any way form or fashioned have any affiliation with anytype of Eastern or “extremist” Religions. It is crazy that I have to clarify that, but I had someone ask me if I was just based on the title and I just wanted to make sure it was “crystal” clear that I wasn’t! I just picked that name because it sounded like a “catchy” title. I never aspired to write a book and wouldn’t have written this one if a good friend of mine hadn’t urged me to share my ministry if you will, with the entire world. Fast forward to this past Friday night, I had the privilege of meeting up with two other newly published authors who we all grew up in the same town that back then was pretty small (Joe Johnson and T.J. Jones). Although we know of each other, we had never hung out, nor even ran in the same social circles. Yet in the period of a year (2018) we all wrote books that were published around the same time. Joe Johnson authored “Outdo Yourself” and T.J. Jones authored “Skill Development Playbook.” After we sat down and started talking about how cool it was that three guys from the same town unknowingly wrote books around the same time frame. Now I’m going to go a little deeper on you here. In a society where especially young African American men are perceived so negatively, to have not one, not two, but THREE author books that are intended to be very positive and beneficial to the readers of those books is something that should be commended. Okay, okay, okay, I realize that sounds like I’m “tooting our horns” for a pat on the back right? And I’m sure some of you are asking the question, “that’s all fine and dandy, but what does any of this have to do with “The Three Wise Men” in the Bible #1, and Christianity altogether on the otherhand?” I’m glad you asked, because what I’m about to tell you gave me chills when we realized it at our meeting last Friday night. While sitting and conversing about our books, and what motivated us to write them, we quickly realized that we had hit the trifecta! Despite never communicating in any way with each other prior to having our books published, we managed to cover the three most important aspects of life to guarantee true happiness! Joe authored a book about “Mental/Emotional” self-help, T.J. authored a book about the “Physical” health aspect, and my book dealt with the “Spiritual!” For that to NOT be planned in any way form or fashioned has to have some Godly influence for us to all come together in that aspect. And AMEN goes right here too!
Now let me just say, that in relating this to the “Three Wise Men” in the Bible, there seems to be some correlation with them and us. First, the three men in the Bible sought out the Son of Man baby Jesus. Ironically all three of us men just happen to be Christian men of Faith! When they reached Jesus’ location, the Bible says that they fell down and Worshipped Him. Once again, ironically all three of us are very active Christ worshippers too! Next, the three wise men in the Bible brought Jesus gifts. All three of us men (Authors) brought forth three gifts to share with Jesus Christ also, in the form of our newly published books! Okay, I see some of you looking a little cross-eyed as you are reading this trying to see how our books are gifts to Jesus Christ am I right? Well look at it this way, if you are constantly working on your mental and emotional health daily to be a better person, is that not following right in line with what the Bible teaches us in order to be happy? If you are mentally and emotionally happy and content, you won’t spend your time searching to fill and emptiness inside of your heart in all the wrong places that only God can fulfill. Once we have managed to get that under control, we next need to strive to be in better physical shape. The better the physical shape we are in, the more we are likely to live longer, happier, and more stress-free lives! Well maybe not totally stress free, but we would be more in a position to deal with stress if we have the mental and physical areas of our lives in check. Last but most certainly not least, we have to have a good close and sincere relationship with Jesus Christ. It is very crucial that we become Spiritual minded in order to fulfill our destiny in God’s will for our lives. All three of these aspects of the human life are important. You cannot have one without the other, and you cannot find true happiness if one of these are out of whack at any moment in time. Also, if you were to do your Biblical homework, the number “3” Biblically represents “Divine Wholeness, Completeness, and Perfection. As you also might know, it also represents the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Today, choose to focus on getting your three aspects of a healthy and happy life in check. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“How healthy is your Mental/Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual lives?” Can I get an Amen?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%!! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for US on the Cross?”
