The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “The Seed You Sow Today..“
Hello again Peeps! Please turn with me in your Bibles to Galatians 6:7. In this passage of scripture you will find the following – “Do NOT be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” May the good Lord add a Blessing to the readers and hearers of His Holy Word! And AMEN goes right here! Question : By a show of virtual hands, how many of you like either planting a garden, or planting flowers or rose bushes etc…every year? I can tell you, growing up on a farm myself I learned at a very early age that my Grandparents were going to have a garden every year whether I liked it or now LOL! Not only that, but my Grandfather also grew and harvested his own hay crop every year to feed his cattle and horses. I’m sure you know where I’m going next with this LOL! We (my Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins were the laborers for these crops. I tell you, my Grandmother’s garden seemed like it was 10 acres big when we were pulling weeds and hoeing the soil to loosen it up for the items we had planted. I have to admit, it was pretty fun at times to plant the seeds and then impatiently go check on the garden frequently to see the seeds progress over the days, weeks, and months afterwards. And MAN, those veggies were the best ever when my Grandmother Dorothy Mae put her magic hands on them while adding just the right spices to them! I can still taste some of her famous dishes she would make as if it were just yesterday! Did you know that life and especially our Spiritual life and well-being are related to the same process of planting seeds as you would an actual garden? It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart today to talk about, “The Seed You Sow Today…” and AMEN goes right here too! Now one thing that every good garden has in common is #1. Proper placement – Meaning that it is positioned in an area where there is plenty of sunlight. #2. Plenty of Irrigation – You want it in a spot where it either gets occasional rain, or close enough to a water hydrant that you can irrigate the garden in extreme dry spells. #3. The ground has been disc or tilled up to be real fine powdery texture so that the seeds will not have a hard time breaking through the soil as he blooms and grows to maturity. #4. They also have straight rows plowed in them to plant the seeds in. #5. Last but not least is they all have really good rich fertile soil. You can’t expect anything to grow in the desert, or rocky hard or even red clay soil. The soil you plant your seeds in is the absolute most important aspect of planting a good and successful garden! Ironically, the same goes for when you are planting the seeds of life and especially for future blessings! You can’t sow “Spiritual Seeds” in the Flesh or Worldly type soil and expect it to produce. And once again, AMEN goes right here!
There are so many different directions I could go with this subject, it is just THAT powerful of a subject matter. For instance, I could talk about how if you want to see what type of seeds you have planted in your past, you don’t have very far to see the results if you have children. And this is where you have to be very honest with yourself, because as the Bible states “You will know them by their fruits.” A seed can only produce after itself because that is the exact DNA that/those seeds have in them. In other words, an apple tree cannot produce oranges, nor can a pecan tree produce walnuts, a cat cannot produce a dog, nor can a fish produce an otter. Why, because as I stated above, it is NOT in their DNA to produce anything but after itself. Think about when you are out and about in public and see a parent with children and the children are acting up really badly. Most of our first reactions if we were raised right would be to mentally or under our breaths condemn the child for its bad behavior. But have you ever stopped to think that the child might be a byproduct of his or her parents due to seeds they planted long before the child was even a thought in their minds? Isn’t it just possible that they parent planted or should I say “sowed” seeds of misbehavior in their youth and the seed (their child) is coming full circle as they say? If I’m being totally and completely honest here, that really isn’t all that great of an analogy. I was a very bad “chile” as the older generation would say (and yes I meant to spell it that way LOL!) growing up. Not in a demon possessed way, but I was your typical boy always getting into something I shouldn’t have. I got more butt whuppins growing up from my mom in my early years that at one point I thought my name was “Boy, didn’t I tell you not to do……..you know what, go break me a switch.” LOL! Like the time I accidently shot my sister Dede with my new Crossman B.B. gun. I can still feel the coldness of that B.B. gun barrel, and stock being wacked across my back and shoulders LOL! And the time I picked up a whistle pop (piece of candy) thinking because the package was partially torn open and the whistle pop was broken in two pieces. In MY mind, I thought “surely nobody would mind if I took this being that it is damaged right?” WRONG! The owner of the store knew all of our moms, and he saw me pick it up and told me, “Carlos, I realize that piece of candy was already broken and the wrapper torn open, just make sure next time you ask for it.” I didn’t think anything about it after apologizing and thanking him for not being mad at me. He even went as far as to say, “we’ll keep this between us, I know your Mother Gladys and she would come unglued on you!” That didn’t last long because one of the other kids with me was my cousin and best childhood friend Terrance aka “Twuan” Stubbs. He gets back on the bus and stands UP to tell everyone on the bus (my sister, brother and aunt also) that I had been caught stealing a whistle pop. I’m sure if you’ve followed my devotionals for a while you know how this ended. My mother whipped me with two of the most flexible elm tree branches (about as big as my pinky finger in diameter) until she was wore out to continue. She whipped me everytime she thought about it! No, this is NOT an exaggeration either! My back, butt, and legs were so welted up that I couldn’t even lay on them. I said all of this to say, that with my upbringing of mischief, my son Dawson is totally opposite of that. He has only been in trouble once his entire school grades from 1-12 and that was for defending one of his friends that was being bullied. God must have felt sorry for me because I sure don’t feel I did anything spectacular in my raising him to have such an obedient child! Maybe somewhere along the lines I did sow some good behavioral seeds, it’s the only thing that makes sense right? LOL! And AMEN goes right here too!
In getting back to the more serious side of my devotional, especially in regards to sowing and reaping, I will give you a very blunt and sincere warning about sowing seeds……. Be VERY careful of the seeds you are sowing right now, because you WILL (whether good or bad) reap what you’ve sown at some point in time in your future life. As I stated above, you have two choices of the types of seeds you can sow. You can sow seeds to the Spirit (Good works in the name of the Lord our God, Helping others who are in need, paying your Tithe consistently, Sharing God’s Holy Word with those who may not know Him, Obeying God’s 10 Commandments, Developing a STRONG personal relationship with Jesus Christ) or you can sow seeds to the Flesh (Drama, Foul Spirited, Greed, Jealousy, Lust, Perversion, Laziness, Malice, Lack of Respect for God and your fellow man/woman, Selfishness, Ungodliness, Unwillingness to serve God in any capacity, and no effort whatsoever to have a true relationship with Jesus Christ)! Either way, as the line in the movie “X” stated, “It’s just a matter of time before your chickens come back home to roost.” Implying that all your lowdown, dirty, backstabbing, evil, deeds you’ve sown over the course of their lifetime, will come back to haunt them as some point and time. You can’t avoid it, you can’t stop it, nor can you deflect it to someone else either. All you can hope for, is that you have asked for Forgiveness for it and that God shows you some level of mercy for those seeds! Anytime a person is going through some bad or rough times, typically you can look at some early aspect of their lives (that is if you like God has access to that early behavior) and successfully connect the dots as to why they are going thru what they are going thru. If they are going thru health problems, it either runs in their family history, or they did not take care of themselves early on. If they are experiencing financial hardships, either they never learned how to properly manage their finances and prepare for hard times, or they were frivolous with their money in their early years. If they are experiencing marriage or relationship problems, they were either hurt really bad by someone in their early life, or they lived a wild and free spirited lifestyle doing whatever they wanted and whenever they wanted to do it, or just never really learned the true value of respecting someone else’s heart and feelings. If they are dealing with unruly, disrespectful, privileged, and downright evil children, you can probably find where early on they wanted to give their children everything they wanted, or they didn’t believe in corporal punishment….pause…..I’m sorry, but “Time Out” is not a proper form of punishment! What I would have given for my mother to have enacted that form of discipline in her house when I was younger!!! LOL! Think about the two cities Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible. They were guilty of most of the offenses mentioned above and look at what happened to them? The people on Earth during the time of Noah, what type of seeds did they sow that made God so angry at them that He decided to start all over again with mankind? In both those instances, God wiped the slate clean and started over! If that doesn’t show you how important the seeds you sow today are in regards to how it affects your harvests of tomorrow nothing will! Can I leave you with a very important question today if I may?
“What type of Seeds are YOU sowing today?” Can I Get An AMEN???
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ 110%! Afterall, isn’t that EXACTLY what HE did for Us on the Cross?”
