The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “The Avengers of Faith”
Hello again my peeps! I know, I know, you are a little disappointed that I have not been writing any new devotionals yet this year! My inbox has been receiving some pretty funny messages chewing me out in a sense, about missing MY personal writings. They say that they appreciate the ones by Pastor Allen Randolph, but they prefer mine due to how I relate them to real life which they can associate themselves with. I have also received text messages and even emails at my work email address about it. Okay, Okay, OKAY……….MY BAD LOL! Today’s message came to me last night as I was lying in bed flipping tv channels trying to find something good to watch before I called it a night. As I was flipping channels, I came across some different advertisements for new movies coming to the theaters soon. One in particular, “Captain Marvel” who for the people who love a good super hero movie, believe will be able to save the Marvel Comics “Avengers” from the evil villain “Thanos” who pretty much obliterated the Avengers in the last movie of the series “Infinity War” to take control over the entire universe. It got me to thinking……and thinking………and my thoughts became more and more along the lines of “hmmmmmm, what could I do with this whole “Avenger’s” thing in a Biblical Devotional? And then it started to flood my heart and mind. And so much so, that I didn’t sleep a wink last night because I kept waking up writing down new parts or different angles. SO with that being said, it is with this train of thought or line of thinking that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “The Avengers of Faith!” And AMEN goes right here! Now most of the human race can appreciate a super hero of any kind, why? Because we have been conditioned to believe from day one about a Savior…aka “Super Hero in Jesus Christ” that will come and save us from the evil villain Satan! As I was thinking in my “Third Eye Perspective” way of thinking last night, I couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe that is why Super Hero movies do so well at the box offices all over the world? Now understand, despite these movies being Science Fiction aka MAKE BELIEVE, Not Real, etc…the human race still feels the need to believe in a super hero type of person to save them. Question, “did you know that there really were real life “Avengers” of the Faith of Christianity back in the Biblical days? Don’t believe me? I’ll prove it…..And AMEN goes right there too!
The first one that comes to mind, would be Adam, whom God created to be the ruler over Earth just like He (God) was in Heaven. I would like to give Adam the super hero name of “Iron Man,” because in the iron man movies, the movie character Tony Stark who is Iron Man is always creating things. His vast intelligence of creativity is unmatched in the avenger movies. As you remember, Adam was give total and complete power to do pretty much anything on Earth that God could do in Heaven! He had the power to create things by just speaking them into existence. He was given the power to name every animal that walked upon the land, swam in the seas, and flew in the air. Every plant, flower, twig, tree, etc… he had the power. And just like with Tony Stark in the Iron Man movies, he was careless with it and it cost him. He forgot to obey God’s warning to never eat of the fruit of the forbidden tree. The next Biblical Avenger of Faith that comes to mind would be Sampson, whom I am going to give the Avenger name of “Superman.” Why? Because if you know the story of both Sampson in the Bible and Superman in the comic books, they both were average looking men. Contrary to how people depict Sampson in their illustrations, he was not built like the Terminator as Pastor Ron Carpenter would say, but more like Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith show!” That is why people were so freaked out at Sampson’s unbelievable strength. Read the Biblical stories about Sampson, from birth he was touched by God in his mother’s womb to become a champion defender (aka Avenger) of God’s chosen people the “Israelites.” Imagine seeing a Barney Fife built man, carry the huge gates of a city up a mountain on his shoulders? Or defeating 5000 Philistine soldiers, not just regular people, but TRAINED SOLDIERS by himself with just the jawbone of an ass. That’s not something you see everyday is it? So YES Sampson WOULD qualify as an “Avenger” of the Faith! The next one that comes to mind, would be Moses. You remember Moses right? He was the man God used to deliver the Israelites from 440 years of slavery and bondage under Pharaoh. But if you know the story, he didn’t do it with “natural” means or methods, there were some “super powers” involved in what he did. So I am going to give Moses the super hero name of “Doctor Strange,” because in the movies, Doctor Strange had these powers that he used to protect and save people too. The first super power that Moses showed he had been given by God is the super power of survival. He had been sentenced to die by the then King of Israel simply because he was a male baby. Pharaoh passed a decree that all male Hebrew babies would be put to death out of fear that they would someday rise up against him and overtake him. Moses mother put him in a basket and then in the river in an attempt to save him. The next example, is when he first went to Pharaoh on God’s behalf to ask him to free the Israelites from slavery.
As you can imagine, Pharaoh was not in the least bit afraid of Moses request nor his God. That’s when the plagues Moses warned Pharaoh about came, one by one and they wreaked havoc on not only Pharaoh, but all of the Egyptians. Pharaoh finally gave in and freed the Israelites. The next person to come to mind as an “Avenger of Faith” would be the Saul, who later changed his name to Paul after having an encounter with Jesus Christ, whom I am going to for time sakes call “The Incredible Hulk.” Not because he had anytype of super human strength, but because he is known for going thru a huge transformation from bad to good. The Incredible Hulk’s character is David Banner, a scientist who was experimenting with genetics and accidently turned himself into a huge green beast when angered with super human strength. However, in Saul’s case, he was an evil man under the name of Saul. He was given the authority to torture and kill anyone who was practicing Christianity. And the Bible says he was very GOOD at it! However, he had a chance meeting on a road to Damascus with Jesus Christ. And in that very moment everything changed when Jesus asked Saul, “Why do you persecute me?” Now if you go back to the story, Saul wasn’t persecuting Jesus Christ, he was persecuting the followers of Christianity. However, this is a very good time to point out, that when you come against Christian people, you ARE coming against God! That is the million dollar message in that chance encounter! From that moment on, Saul who then because Paul went on to be a protector of the Faith of Christianity! And in the same manner in which he tortured and persecuted Christians, he used that same energy to protect those very same people! In hip hop terms, He became a Ride or Die” protector for them! Some people will only talk about being a “Ride or Die” type friend for you, but not Paul, he went just as hard after the encounter to protect them as he did to harm them! Just like with the Incredible Hulk in the movies, he is known for “putting in work” on anyone that harms someone he cares about or when he sees someone being harmed. In the Avenger movies, his strength is used to help defeat the villains from outer space. Now as I bring this to a close, I know that some of you might not think that I should have tied science fiction examples with real life ones, but in order to get you to realize just how important these “super heroes” of the Bible really were to our lives today, I believe it is a very good analogy. Now if Satan is “Thanos” then of course there would have to be a sequel to this devotional at some point in time to introduce Jesus Christ (aka Captain Marvel) as the Savior with unlimited power that is the only one to have enough power to defeat Thanos who is (in the Avenger movie series at least) in control of the whole universe! To Be Continued………. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“Did you know that YOU also have the power to be an Avenger of Faith?” What is your super power???
Can I get an AMEN???
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what HE did for US on the Cross?”
