Thought For Today – “Outside Interferences…”
Good morning again Saints! How many of you by a show of raised virtual hands, absolutely hates it when something you are involved or engaged in intently gets interrupted? Maybe you are watching something on television, or even in person and it gets disturbed or interrupted? This past Sunday, I was trying to watch my favorite NFL team the Dallas Cowboys play their divisional rivals the Philadelphia Eagles. Before the game even got started, Fox 16 the channel that was broadcasting it experienced some technical difficulties and was unable to resolve them for the entire game. If you were fortunate enough like me and numerous others, you were able to watch it via the Fox 16 app on our phones or a tablet, however it is not the same on a 4” screen as opposed to a regular sized one. Apparently, one of the Entergy cables had been cut or damaged or something like and they were not able to repair it in time for the game. That interference with the broadcasting channel cost a lot of Cowboys and Eagles fans a lot of stress not being able to watch the game of the season with taking over the lead of the division on the line! Well just for the record, my Cowboys won, soooooooooo, “HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!!!!” J It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Outside Interferences…” And AMEN goes right here! Now I’m sure, that there are a lot of people reading this right now, who probably think that me and thousands maybe even millions of others missing that football game wasn’t that big of a deal, I assure you it WAS! LOL! Cowboys and Eagle fans are some of the most passionate NFL fans in the country!!! And since were on the subject of “Outside Interferences….” Let me give you a few Biblical examples and how they impacted some pretty notable and even important people in our past Biblical history. The first one, would have to be when Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. I’m sure all of the women who read my devotionals regularly, are already huffing, puffing, rolling their eyes, have their hands on their hips just waiting to pounce on me for “once again blaming poor Eve for everything that happened in that scenario” LOL! Nooooo I’m not actually, I just want to point out a very important point about the “why” what happened actually happened….however, jes for the record she was the one the serpent (Satan) did actually approach not Adam! I’m just saying….don’t get mad at me for something Eve did LOL!!! And AMEN goes right here too! LOL
First of all, Eve did mess up by being in the part of the Garden that God had warned her and Adam about. Second of all, she was in that area alone wasn’t she? Thirdly, she allowed of all things, a serpent (aka snake) to not trick her as some of my women readers like to call it or imply. The serpent did not trick her persay, all he did was present her with an alternate possibility of what the consequences “MIGHT” be “IF” she ate of the forbidden fruit tree. Yeah I know, some of you are thinking that is the same as tricking her LOL! However, here is the proof that she was NOT tricked. Because God Himself had been the one to give them the warning personally, there was no need to question, doubt, or ignore the warning. He told them what the consequences would be if they did disobey Him and eat of the fruit, didn’t He? Okay then!!! LOL!! Can I get an AMEN? Okay, maybe this is making a very STRONG case that Eve is “mostly” responsible for what happened in the eating of the forbidden fruit incident? Just joking, easy now…no need to be threatening and promising violence LOL! I just like getting you womenfolk worked up a little every now and then about that particular incident. The point I’m trying to make in this that correlates to today’s topic, is that Eve whether she realized it or not was a victim of “Outside Interferences.” Satan knew exactly what he was doing when he approached Eve. He knew Adam was to close with God to be deceived, that’s why Satan chose Eve. He knew the influence Eve had over Adam, and he bet his whole state of being on that influence. The next example of “Outside Interferences” that comes to mind from the Bible would be, the story of Sampson and Delilah. I have spoken recently on this subject and therefore no need to retell the whole story. But contrary to popular belief, Delilah, not Sampson was the victim of “Outside Interferences.” I see you looking at me a little cross eyed right now. I know, I know, you are thinking to yourself that she betrayed Sampson by tricking him to tell her the secret to his incredible strength right? Yes sis did do that, you would be correct! But watch this, up until the Philistines (whom Sampson had defeated single handedly time and time again in battle) learned of her affiliation with Sampson, they were never concerned with Delilah. I feel it is safe to assume, that she could have easily fell in love with Sampson and they could have possibly lived happily ever after if it had not been for the proposition that was made to her about betraying Sampson. BUT, due to “Outside Interferences,” a significant amount of silver shekels offered to her in return for her betrayal was all it took.
The next example of “Outside Interferences” that comes to mind, would be the Israelites. Oh you know who they are right? “God’s “CHOSEN” people?” They had everything a race of people could ever want, desire or need, and it still wasn’t enough. They had the protection, blessings, and favor of God Himself over them, and whereas that would be enough for some, it wasn’t enough for them. Because every other country they knew or were associated with had a king to rule over them, they too wanted a king to rule over them also. However, it wasn’t God’s plan for them to have one. Because of His direct involvement with them, God didn’t want the Israelites to have a king. And why would they need one when they had of all people, GOD Himself to rule over them? But they kept on, and on, and on, moaning and groaning (you know, like we do when we want something our neighbors, friends, or worse, arch rivals have and we do great damage to ourselves to try and get it) to have one for them too. And God being that type of God to never force anyone of us to do anything, gave them what they asked for, a king. Saul was the first king over Israel, and the Bible describes him as a “carnal” man. In other words, he was driven by lust and material things and they eventually led to his downfall. It was the “Outside Interferences” of the Israelites wanting to be like other countries who had a king that started the downfall of their great nation also. You see, the bad kings that ruled over Israel at different times strayed away from God’s Commandments and focused on making their people worship them instead. And to practice their beliefs that were NOT of God, most resulting in idolatry type of beliefs. Now, to bring this closer to home and in trying to relate it to you and I in our everyday life, how many of you reading this now is dealing with some “Outside Interferences?” More importantly, are YOU the one doing the interfering? It is one thing to be asked to get involved in someone else’s life or situation, but to force your way into that person’s life is a whole different ballgame. I can remember my sweet momma “G” jumping all over me when I would visiting her and have my then young son Dawson with me. He would do something that he knew better than to do, and I would get on to him for doing it, and before I knew it, Mom would “be all up in my grill ready to pounce on me, “leave that boy alone! Why are you always getting onto him for every little thing? He’s a good kid, you act like he’s a heathen or something! Jesus Christ son, give him a break, let him be a kid!” Now if you knew my late Momma “G,” you know that she was a realist! She didn’t sugarcoat anything to anyone. If you messed up, she would very quick to discipline you anytime, anyplace, and for however long she deem necessary. Not only that, but her discipline was very VERY, VERY harsh and the punishment definitely fit the crime (IN HER MIND) LOL! Yet, when it came to us bringing our kids around her, they could do no wrong……..AT ALL…….EVER! My siblings could not discipline our children in front of her without her becoming an “Outside Interference” in a heartbeat! It took me a very long time to convince her, that the reason we turned out the way we did, (not that we are perfect in any way, just that we know how to act respectfully, be responsible, and survive) was because she took great pride in setting boundaries for us from a very early age! Not only that, but that she reinforced those boundaries almost every single time when we crossed them. She finally apologized to me as Dawson got older and after I had all but given up on trying to convince her discipline was necessary at times with him, just like it was with ME back when I was younger. I simply told her, “momma, sometimes a child needs to fear consequences when they crossover set boundaries their parents has in place for them, because if they don’t, society, the world, and people other than their parents will make sure they do in ways harsher than what their parents would. That’s where kids get the mentality of feeling “entitled” and that is what’s wrong with the current generations of today right now!” And AMEN goes right here too!!! She told me she understood and we hugged a good while, and I called her a “Chomp” jokingly like I did from time to time, as I kissed her on her forehead, and she grabbed my ear and tried to twist it off while laughing hysterically responding back with “ole BIG HEADED boy!” That is just how we rolled LOL! Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“Are you the victim of “Outside Interferences,” OR are you the Perpetrator of “Outside Interferences…?” Can I get an AMEN???
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what HE did for US on the Cross???”
