The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “What’s Your Motive?”
Have you ever wondered to yourself what a person’s true intentions or “motives” were, for why they were associated with you? I was having a conversation with a good friend of mine, and this person made that statement in just general conversation, and I started to ask that question in every aspect of my personal life. The more I thought about that question, the more it dawned on me that this person had just spoke to me on behalf of God giving me the next subject to my “Thought For Today’s!” It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “What’s YOUR motive?” And AMEN goes right here! What is a “motive?” The dictionary definition of that word is : Motive – “A reason for doing something, especially one that is hidden or not obvious.” That is a very powerful word right there, because I’m sure immediately thought to yourselves about the numerous people in their everyday lives, who came to mind as what their “motive” for being in your life really is? Is it because we are family, bound by blood but that’s pretty much it? Is it because we are lifelong, or even short term friends who’ve built a very close bond that is like family? Is it some sort of security they bring us or vice versa? Is it for financial gain, or some other form of gain? What is the motive? There is always a motive, and it may be good or may be bad, but one thing’s for sure, there is ALWAYS a motive involved…and AMEN goes right here!
The act of having a “motive” is nothing new, and it has been around since the beginning of time actually. Lucifer (formerly God’s most highly regarded Angel in Heaven) had a “motive” when he rebelled in Heaven against God. His motive was, that he wanted to be closer to God than Jesus Christ. And actually if we are being totally clear, he actually wanted to be worshipped like God was. After being kicked out of Heaven, along with 1/3 of the Angel population in Heaven for rebelling with him. Lucifer’s “motive” then became, to get back at God for banishing him from Heaven, by trying to cause a downfall of the one thing God treasures the most, US humans, specifically Adam and Even. Satan (The Angel formerly known as Lucifer), showed up in the Garden of Eden in the form of a serpent for one purpose and one purpose only (read Genesis 3: starting at verse 1). He had a “motive” to tempt Adam’s helpmate Eve. He waited until she was alone in an area of the garden she was warned to stay away from, that’s when he set is plan or “motive” into motion. We all know how that turned out. Menfolk, there is also a good lesson to be learned from this, stop leaving your woman unattended for long periods of time, or she’ll end up wandering into some big trouble! LOL! Another example of bad “motives,” is when the clergymen who were jealous of Daniel after he gained favor with King Darius. Their “motive” was to get rid of him, because he had been raised to high office (read the book of Daniel 6). They tricked King Darius into issuing a decree which condemned anyone (but especially Daniel) who prayed to any god or man but King Darius to death by being thrown into the hungry lion’s den. Oh, but the power of our Lord God in Heaven, until HE gives the final say so, it is NEVER over. The clergymen learned the hard way after they were themselves thrown into the Lion’s den after Daniel survived the night in the den with the hungry Lions, because he held true to his Faith in God and did not cave and worship King Darius. What was Lots wife’s “motive” for looking back, while being allowed to escape the destruction of the two cities Sodom and Gomorrah, after clearly being warned “not to look back nomatter what?” (read Genesis 19:26) resulting in her being turned into a pillar of salt? Was she just that hardheaded, or maybe nosey, or did she want to take one last look at the fun (aka sin) that she used to engage in that prompted the destruction in the first place as some scholars state? What was Judas’ “motive” for betraying Jesus Christ of all people, for just a measly 30 pieces of silver? You mean to tell me, that the Savior of Mankind’s life was only worth 30 pieces of silver to him? (read Luke 22). No price should have been worthy of Jesus Christ’s life, especially after it was revealed who He really was. To answer the question, it was because Judas lacked true “mustard seed” Faith in Christ, and he had no personal relationship with Jesus. Yes he knew of Jesus, but if you have a true and sincere relationship with Jesus Christ, no one would be able to convince you to betray Him for any amount of money! Here is an “Ah Ha” moment, or maybe a “Lesson Learned” moment is the better phrase. When you don’t have Faith nor a good personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you place very little value on the most important things in your life, and if you’re not careful, you WILL lose those things one by one for something that later on, you’ll come to find wasn’t really worth it afterall when you finally do see your mistake… And AMEN goes here too!
Okay, so let me try and wrap this up by bringing it closer to home. I know I could find a lot of examples in the Bible of people having the wrong “motives” in their actions regarding God, Jesus Christ, the Disciples, and even their fellow man or woman. Here’s a question, is your “motive” towards everyone in your life right now, good, pure, or genuine? Or, is there some shady, ulterior “motive” behind your association with that/those persons? Are they really in your life because you really want, need and care about them genuinely and their wellbeing and not for any other reason? I can say with 100% truth, that with every single person in my life at this very moment in time, that I have absolutely NO shady or ulterior motives in them being in my life. If you take inventory of every person in your life, and you basically put yourself on trial whether or not any particular person in your life is only there because you have an ulterior motive for them, that is a very dangerous game you are playing. God knows your every thought in your heart good or bad, let alone what your future actions are WAY before you ever actually do them. He knows if you have any shady “motives” in your heart for that person and you will be punished accordingly if those “motives” are put into play when you least expect it. If this person especially is one of His very own (Born again Christians) He will also reveal your motives to them at the appropriate time! What happened to the days where people looked out for each other, and had each other’s BEST interests at heart even before your own? Why are so many people only concerned about their own personal gain, even at the expense of someone else’s misery, and in more times than not, someone they claim to love, care about, and or value a great deal? That is a heckuva question to ask, because there are multiple answers for it that all point right back to “MOTIVES!” Jesus Christ found that out with one of His most trusted group of followers, His disciples. You can bet there is a lot of people out there who has motives in mind that they think are well hidden from the public eye, and especially from the person who will be the victim of their “motives,” but God knows ALL and God sees ALL and will ALWAYS have that person’s back whether you realize it or not! And AMEN goes right here too! Be very careful when you treat a child of the MOST HIGH GOD with bad or shady intentions or “motives,” “The ditch you are digging for them, might just end up being your own.” Can I leave you with a question to ponder if I may?
“How genuine are YOUR motives towards the people in your life right now, and would God be pleased with them”?
Can I get an AMEN????
