The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “Turning The Worldly Noise Volume Down…”
By a show of virtual hands, how many of you have a hard time finding time for God? Come on now, don’t be shy! Hmmmmmm, I had to go here, but some of you are not being very honest! Every hand of every person reading this should have gone up immediately. You see, some of you read that first sentence to mean “don’t have time for God,” instead of what I said, “have a hard time finding time for God” didn’t you? My hand was definitely up, because although I manage to find time for God first thing in the morning each day, it always comes with a different challenge. I stayed up later than I usually do the night before and I am tired. So when the alarm went off that next morning, I woke up as usual, but my mind was distracted due to lack of ample sleep so I hit the snooze button a time or two. Now I’m in scramble mode, hustling around trying to get my shower, shave, brush my teeth, get dressed and on the road so that I can beat the highway traffic to arrive without dealing with people who really don’t know appear to know how to drive on an Interstate! LOL! If you are like me, once you start out behind your normal routine, you seem to be having to hustle and bustle the entire day it seems, am I right? And as bad as I hate to admit it, FOR ME, the last thing on my mind during that busy time is finding time for God. “He’ll understand, He knows I need my job! But then guilt sets in, “what if God decided He was too busy for me this morning?” Anyways, it is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed upon my heart this morning to talk about, “Turning The Worldly Noise Volume Down So You Can Hear God Speak…” and AMEN goes right here! Now when you talk about “trying” to turn the volume of the worldly noise, you quickly find that you have taken on a task that will require some serious effort! “Brother Carlos, I have a question, what exactly are you referring to as “worldly noise?” That is a very good question, and I am actually really glad someone asked it! Worldly Noise can be defined as, anything that causes you to, or results in your taking your focus off of God or distracts us. Our televisions, cell phones, our children, our jobs, our hobbies, etc…
If you read your Bibles, you know that back in the days of our ancestors, God spoke directly to Prophets and it was their responsibility to relay those messages to the people. Then God sent His Son Jesus Christ to deliver His Holy Word to the masses. In this day and age, Pastors, Preachers, Evangelists, etc.. bring forth the Word of God to the people. However, in this day and age, it is very difficult to hear from God due to all of the constant commotion going on in the world. The average person’s mind is spinning out of control with all of the things that occupy our mental capacity, “am I going to make it to work on time today, do I even want to go to work today or should I just call in and take “mental health” day? What clothes am I going to wear? I wish my husband/wife or children would hurry up and get out of the shower so I can get in! Why is this person in front of me driving 45 in a 60mph speed zone? What am I going to eat for lunch or supper? I can’t wait to watch my favorite television show that comes on tonight.” All of those things are just a snippet of all the things that will go through our minds on a daily basis. There are tons more, and they have the capacity to distract us from finding quality time to spend with God. We feel we need to just rush, rush, rush to do everything in hurry in order to get it all done in one day, to ensure getting it done before you finally do have a chance to sit down and relax. At that point, you are too tired for God, and you are not in a good mindset to give Him your full attention. If you think back to the Biblical days, when God spoke to a lot of His prophets it was either in a dream, or when that person was in total solitude, like Moses being up on top of Mt. Sinai when he received the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20), or Adam and Eve when they were in the Garden of Eden after eating of the forbidden fruit. God came down Himself and walked through the Garden looking for, and calling out to Adam and Eve who were hiding, knowing they had disobeyed Him. God spoke to Noah giving him forewarning about the impending flood, and instructed him to build the great Ark. Unlike today, those people God spoke to didn’t have all the distractions we have today as I mentioned some of the more frequent or popular ones above. It was easy for them to hear Him, more importantly, it was also easier I would have to believe for them to find time for Him (God) if they wanted to.
In this day and age, it is a wonder how anyone is able to find “quality” time with the Lord. Just about anything and everything that could possibly distract us is handily available all day everyday. Here’s just a few of the type of problems we will run into if we do not make is a point to find “quality” time for God. #1. We will slowly but surely drift away from Him and the good and intimate relationship that is required to keep ourselves in good standing with Him. The only way to keep this relationship “close” is by investing quality time in and with Him. If you are one of these people who believe saying “Lord lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray you Lord my soul to take, bless Momma, Papa, etc…” is spending quality time with Him you are sadly mistaken. That may work for a preteen kid, but not and adult! #2. You will start to see your peace erode away like a river washing away sand or dirt downstream. Little by little you will start to notice bad things happening in your life that will seem to line up like a domino effect. It will appear that you are taking a new blow after blow before even getting over the previous one. #3. Once your life gets to the point of total and complete chaos, destruction, and deterioration, only then will you start to slow down enough to try and make sense of it. You will take time to reflect back on when it all started, and you’ll pretty much be able to put your finger directly on the time frame in which it all happened. During this time, you will start to eliminate one cause after another of what could have triggered this freefall. It won’t take you long to realize that the problem lies in that you have strayed away from God, stopped going to Church on a regular basis, and stopped reading your Bible on a regular or daily basis, and stopped finding quiet time to pray sincere prayers to Him. All of these epiphany’s will start to hit you like a ton of bricks, and if you’re smart you’ll stop everything you are doing at that very moment and ask for Forgiveness from God. And because He has told us that He will forgive us 7 times 77 times a day, He will forgive you. The noise of the world, aka everyday distractions is by design. This is Satan’s most popular tactic on leading born again people to stray from God. He has been using it for thousands of years, very effectively too in a lot of cases! Today, make it a point to find time for the Lord, afterall isn’t that the most important thing of your existence? Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“Are you willing to “Turn The Worldly Noise Volume Down” and make time for God? He is going to get your attention one way or another, it might as well be by your decision versus His!” Can I get an AMEN???
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what He did for us on the Cross?”
