The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “Tell Em About God Anyways…”
This morning’s message is in continuation to yesterday’s message, “You Can Lead A Horse To Water, But You Can’t Force It To Drank.” There were just some additional points I wanted to hit or share with you, that I didn’t get to include in yesterday’s due to length and volume. I really do try my best to not let these get too long, but when I’m talking about God. I can go on and on and on all day everyday! I got to thinking about how many times over the years (18 going on 19 years I have been sharing God’s word.) that I have been put in a position of trying to convince someone that God really does exist. Now I know that some of you are reading this in total astonishment, that I would have to actually convince anyone of God’s existence, but I do. For some people it is just the way that they were raised, their mother and father didn’t go to Church or worship God, and so naturally they would not have been exposed to Him at any point and time in their lives. And even on those rare occasions that they saw a tv commercial, or hear a Religious advertisement on the radio, or maybe even seen printed material of a particular Church advertising it’s Church Services, or a Revival. Whatever the case may be, that wasn’t enough to peak their curiosities to seek more knowledge about the subject, leading to that person accepting Christ in their life/heart. It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to continue talking about, “Tell Em About God Anyways!” And AMEN goes right here! Now, if you have never had to defend your belief in God to a non-believer, it is not the easiest thing to do. And contrary to your first thought, that it would be some bitter, mean and or evil person that you are debating with, NO there are some very good people, with good hearts that I have come across who didn’t believe in God. This makes it harder, at least for ME in that it in some cases were people I liked, admired, or cared deeply for as friends. The sad part is, that they were as deeply rooted in their non-belief as I was in my belief. I would liken it in some cases, to an adult trying to convince a child that getting s shot from the doctor isn’t going to hurt after they have already had that experience. Not happening LOL! I am always amazed at the “informed” ones whose case against believing in God has to do with a wide range of reasons. The ones who just were never exposed to it growing up for the most part at least have an open mind about it. Then, it is up to you to lay it out for them in an understandable enough way, that they can understand it. However, with someone who believes they are totally and completely informed on the subject of God’s existence, that in most if not all cases is and impossible feat. Why? Because in their minds, they have the proof to back up their beliefs.
The one thing I try to always be mindful of when I am talking with a non-believer who feels they are “informed” enough as to why they shouldn’t believe in God, to never make it a person battle. I try to stick to the facts, and never nomatter how animated they might get ever belittle them for not believing. I try to keep it cordial and peaceful the whole entire debate. Yes, sometimes that is very hard to do when the other person is becoming hostile, aggressive, combative, and even disrespectful. That is a time to remember a Bible verse regarding this, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (read Romans 12:2). There is another Biblical verse that would be very relevant in a heated debate about God’s existence, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through Faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (read Ephesians 2:8-10). There are some people who will tirelessly debate with you that God does not exist, so much so that you leave them wondering how they could be so naïve. It is our responsibility as Christians to “Tell Em About God Anyways…!” One thing Christian followers cannot get caught up in, is allowing the person’s response to deter them from continuing to firmly and confidently explain why it is imperative to believe it God. I have been very Blessed in that God blessed me with a gift of gabb as they say. “I’m a really good talker in other words.” And it is one thing that I have learned, is that in most conversations in life regarding anything, it is all about a person’s delivery. Two people can say the same thing, I mean same exact thing to someone and from one it will fall on deaf ears, while the other person it will not only sink it, but make a positive impact on that person’s life forever! Think about how long Jesus Christ spent trying to convince the people in His day that He was who He said He was? Here He was providing them a visual image that they could talk to, touch, and even walk with, and some and actually even most still did not believe Him. As the saying goes, “What Would Jesus Do?” He would “Tell Em About God Anyways!” And AMEN goes right here too!
The Bible is full of example after example of people being led to Christ. Some people accepted Him into their hearts, while other’s rejected Him. But here is the thing that really blows me away about some of the occurrences from the Bible with Jesus Christ. Some people didn’t even have to be touched by Him at all, just an encounter with Him and they were transformed. The first one that comes to mind, would be Paul (previously known as Saul). In the Book of Acts, the 9:1-26 verses you learn that Paul was a Pharisee who intensely persecuted the followers of Jesus. And then after a brief encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul transforms himself into a loyal follower of Jesus Christ. This amazes me when you think about how hard it is to get people nowadays to accept Jesus Christ, all Paul needed to happen was to see Him. Then it says that Jesus asked Paul, “why do you persecute me?” meaning persecuting His Christian followers. After this brief conversation, Paul ended his persecution of Christians and began to work just as hard FOR the Kingdom of Heaven, as he did while persecuting the Christians. The next example that comes to mind, is the story about the Samaritan woman at the well (read John 4:1-42). Jesus was passing thru that area when He saw a well and walked over to get a drink of water. There was a Samaritan woman there and He asked her for a drink. At first, she basically had an attitude with Him stating that under any other circumstances, Samaritans and Jews were not known to associate with each other. As Jesus asked the woman for a drink multiple times, she seemed to have something smart-alecky to say to Him. Then Jesus asked, “woman, where is your husband?” Her reply was, “I don’t have a husband, I only have a friend.” Now I know this has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity, but in my “Third Eye Perspective” way of seeing things, the rap song “Just A Friend” by Biz Markie came to mind. LOL! If you don’t know the song, I’ll spare you me singing it, but let’s just say, that in his song he meets a girl he really likes and asks her if she has a boyfriend. She said “No, I only have a friend.” Well everyone knows what it usually means when woman says that LOL! They are “uniquely connected” LOL! That’s pretty much what this woman was implying in the story. Then Jesus busts her out doesn’t He? “It is true that you do not have a husband, but you have had 5 husbands and this man you call a friend lives with you is not your husband is he?” The Samaritan woman at that moment realizes Jesus is no ordinary man, and actually proclaims Him to be a Prophet. As the story goes, Jesus tells her about “living water” that once she partakes of it, she will thirst no more! It would have been easy for the Samaritan woman to not want to hear anything Jesus had to say. The fact that their two ethnic backgrounds didn’t get along could have possibly under other circumstances have prevented her from being willing to hear anything He had to say. And Jesus could have had the same mentality, but instead He “Told her about God anyways!” Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“When Opportunity Permits, Will You Tell Em About God Anyways?” Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what He did for us on the Cross?”
