Thought For Today – “Destiny Decisions”
This morning when I walked out of my house, the temps were a lot cooler than they have been the past week. It was a very nice change in pace actually. One thing is for sure, summertime temperatures are already here! It’s like we skipped from winter and went straight to summer! I tend to really enjoy spring every year. Okay, okay, okay, let me get to this morning’s message. By a show of hands, how many of you wish you could go back and have a “redo” on some of the decisions you’ve made in your past? I know I wish that all the time LOL! WOW, not one single hand is down in the entire audience. If there had been, either it was a very young child or an adult who was not being honest, in my humble opinion. There is a good reason why this would be very, VERY beneficial to if we could do it. For those of you who may not already know this, there are decisions we’ve made in our past that were very impactful or influential on our future! I will call them “Destiny Decisions,” and that’s because that is exactly what they were! I got this subject for this morning’s devotional while I was listening to one of my favorite online Pastors (Ron Carpenter). It was in his series called “The Choice part 3 or 4.” As I have stated in recent devotionals, He took an entire year to break down the whole Bible book of Ruth verse by verse and put it into several series. Anyways, getting back to my message this morning, it is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “Destiny Decisions.” And AMEN goes right here! In trying to understand what this means, I feel it is very imperative that I define the words above. The dictionary definition of the word “Destiny” is as follows: “the events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future.” Now the definition of the word “Decision,” is defined as : “a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration.” If I were to put them together, I would get something like this, “The events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future after a conclusion or resolution is reached after consideration.” Let the Church folks say AMEN!
As I stated above, not one person alive today wouldn’t want to go back and change something about their lives in their past that has directly impacted their current state if they could. Why? Because we could change so much about our lives for the better if we could couldn’t we? I know as I look back over my life, I see tons of things that I would love to be able to change in my past. However, that is just not possible yet is it? I say “yet” because with all of the new technology that is being discovered and produced, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if in the future someone is able to invent a time machine of some sort to accomplish this. “Destiny Decisions” isn’t anything new, it has been around since the beginning of time. People all the way back to before Christ experienced the “Destiny Decision” syndrome. What’s that? You say you need some examples? No problem at all…..I would say that the very first “Destiny Decision” moment would be when God chose to create Angels to praise and worship Him. You are probably wondering why or how that would fall under this category I’m guessing? Well think about it, what happened to 1/3 of the Angels in Heaven when they were convinced to rebel against God? (read Revelations 12:7-9). It is very hard for me to wrap my mind around the fact that these perfect beings that God created just for the main purpose of worshipping and praising Him could turn on Him like they did. I mean, the very first words spoken out of their mouths upon creation was “Holy, Holy, Holy.” Once the rebellion in Heaven had ended, and Lucifer and the one third of Angels (now known as demons) had been cast out, God decided to create man, specifically Adam and Eve. He wanted to create a being who for all intents and purposes were in His image, but who had a choice whether we wanted to worship and praise Him or not. Why is this important? Because He knew that if we worshipped and praised Him, it would be out of free will and not forced. This would be proof that it was genuine, unlike the Angels who were created or “designed” to do it from the point of origin. Some of you don’t realize how important it is to God for us to freely worship and praise Him!
Another example of a “Destiny Decision” in the Biblical times, would be the dreaded incident in the Garden of Eden. When Adam and Eve both ate of the forbidden fruit, and forever changing the landscape of how God intended things to work in regards to the human race. God created us for the sole purpose of being able to fellowship with us, but also for us to worship and praise Him of our own free will. However, that moment in time when Adam and Eve disobeyed in the Garden of Eden, it changed our destiny and futures right at that very moment didn’t it? Another good example would be when God instructed Noah to build the great Ark. Noah could have easily said no and went on living his life as he was until the great flood came. Then he would have been in trouble just like everyone else who didn’t follow God’s commandments. Noah did exactly what God asked him to do, and because of it, his destiny was secured along with his family to survive the great flood. Yet another good example of a “Destiny Decision” that comes to mind is when the Israelites had come to the border of their promised land. The leaders of the twelve tribes each agreed to send a representative of their tribes in to scout the city. The destiny decision moment came when each of the twelve scouts came back to report what they saw. All but two came back with reports of how great the city was, how fertile the soil was, how perfect it was for them with one exception. The city as perfect for us as it is, we cannot defeat the current inhabitants of the city because they are like giants and we are like grasshoppers. That lack of Faith in God caused them to have to wander around in the wilderness for 40 years until all of the heads of their tribes had died. The two who reported back with confidence that they indeed cold conquer the inhabitants of the city. The “Destiny Decision” moment in this story was that because the 10 spies who returned afraid of the inhabitants caused a 40 year delay in entering into their promised land. In trying to relate this to this day and age, how many of you reading this can think of a moment in your past looking back, that a decision you made back then is still impacting you right now? I know I can think of quite a few of them. The very fact that we can’t always realize that we are in a “Destiny Decision” moment, should be enough to convince us that any important decision we are faced with be presented to God first for His approval. This would save us from so much hurt, pain, failure, grief, loss, and being delayed Blessings that God intended for us. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“Why are you not allowing God to give you His stamp of approval or His rejection to plans that you are trying to make?” Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ! Afterall, isn’t that exactly what He did for us on the Cross?”
