The Third Eye Perspective:
By Carlos C. Brown
Thought For Today – “If You Plant A Godly Seed, You Will Get A Godly Reward.”
Although mother nature has been acting a little “bi-polar” here lately, it does appear that spring is just around the corner. Pretty soon you will start to see flowers, plants and trees starting to bloom back to life again after their long winter’s hibernation. And that got me to thinking about what I’m going to plant this year in my little backyard garden. Last year I grew some really nice sized tomatoes and cucumbers, and I plan to plant evenmore things this year. This brings back memories of my dear grandmother Dorothy Mae aka “Muddea,” who had what seemed like a 100 acres for a garden. In reality, it was only about 5 acres, but when you are pulling or chopping weeds ery day awl day long it seemed, or picking the veggies when they are ripe, it seems like those rows got longer and longer by the minute! But man do I miss all those good meals with fresh from the garden goodies! Corn on the cobb, Okra, Purple Hull Peas, Green Beans, Cabbage, Peppers, Squash, Cucumbers, etc….nothing like a good old country meal with fresh produce. This also got me to thinking about a devotional I did last year or maybe the year before entitled “What Kind of Soil Are You Planting Your Seeds In?” This will kinda be a continuation of that devotional, except for the fact that this time around, I am going to deal with the “what” type of seed you are planting, as opposed to what you are planting it in. It is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about, “If You Plant A Godly Seed, You Will Get A Godly Reward.” And I know that will Preach all by itself! And AMEN goes right here! Most Gracious and most Holy Heavenly Father, Bless me to share this Spiritual Word with my loyal followers, in a way that is clear enough for anyone to benefit from the message as it is intended. Please forgive me for any trespasses my fellow man, or sins that I’ve committed, and any of your Commandments I’ve broken, in your Sweet Darling Son Jesus’ name, AMEN!” In going back to the subject of gardening for just a minute, I had a great uncle that we called “Uncle Bader” why we called him that I have no idea. He name was Elijah Walker, and to say this man had a green thumb, would be the understatement of the decade. He and his wife of many years, would work their garden daily, and I swear anything and everything he planted would produce to its full capacity every year. He had everything you could think of in his garden vegetable wise, and even had a pear tree, apple tree, and a peach tree too. On the inside of the fence surrounding his garden he had the biggest juiciest blackberries and strawberries that were huge too. They canned so much stuff that they would give a lot of it away, as their cabinets where full to the max. Those were the good old days, you don’t hardly see many gardens like that today.
Now, let me snap out of the trip down memory lane and dive into this word for today. I would like to start this off with a question. By a show of virtual hands, how many of you that read your Bible regularly, has picked up on the fact that when God speaks, He uses symbolisms? For example, when the Bible speaks about the Kingdom of Heaven being like a treasure buried in a field? And why all throughout the Bible you see references to farmers, shepherds, and fishermen? Anybody, anybody??? Okay I see a few hands going up over on the right side, and there are quite a few over on the left side too. And I see a good number of hands back in the back as well. For those of you who don’t know, it is because Jesus stated that the Kingdom although is “available” for anyone and everyone, it wasn’t intended for the common passerby to receive it without having to dig for it (figuratively speaking). Now before you go and crucify me for making such a bold statement, I would suggest that you go and read Matthew 13:44 it reads as follows: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.” When Jesus spoke to His disciples, He spoke clearly and specifically. However, when He spoke to large crowds, that’s when the symbolisms came in. Jesus was even asked why He spoke differently to the Disciples than He did the large crowds of people, by one of His Disciples. Jesus’ response to this was very simple, because not everyone is going to put in the work to receive the Kingdom. Some are just looking for a freebie, or a handout, only a few determined Christians will seek out the Kingdom on their own. And think about it, back then once word got out about the miracles Jesus performed on people, everyone that showed up at the different places Jesus traveled to, either was there to ask Him for something (healing or blessings, etc..), or was there to witness the miracles being performed out of curiosity. Had Jesus just announced that He wasn’t going to perform any miracles that day and just preached the Gospel the entire time, you can bet the crowds wouldn’t have been as big. One miracle in particular comes to mind, when He fed over 5000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. And the Bible states that everyone left there full. (Read Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44 verses).
Now in getting back to my subject title, that too was a symbolism. Because the type of seeds I am referring to in this, are “Spiritual” seeds. What’s that, you say you’ve never heard of those? How do you find some of these “Spiritual” seeds? Well first let me regain my composure, because I am totally shocked that you’ve never heard of, or had explained to you what a “Spiritual” seed is. The Spiritual” seed that is being discussed, is a metaphor and not meant in any type of literal way. For example, if you “plant” aka indulge in good deeds towards other people, that would be considered a Godly or “Spiritual” seed. However, if you were to plant (aka indulge in) chaos, evil, drama, etc…those seeds will also bear fruit, the very same fruit that you planted as listed above. Godly seeds can come in the form of many different physical appearances, such as lending an ear to a friend who going thru a storm and needing encouragement. It could also be in the form of providing some Biblical seeds in the form of verses that may fit a person’s current situation. Most people believe you have to give money in order to bless someone, and although that is a good way to help a person in need, it is NOT the only way, nor is it the best way to plant Godly seeds. Back in the older generation days of my parents and grandparents when they were younger, they sewed “Godly” seeds by cooking a meal for someone that was going thru a storm. Another way they would plant Godly seeds, is that they would go over to that person’s house and pray for and with that person. You don’t see that happening very often in this day and age of “money, money, money, mooooooooneeeeeyyyy” as the song goes. Nowadays, for a lot of people, the only type of seed they would be appreciative of, is a money seed. That is because mentalities have changed over the past few generations of what is important. What happened to the days, where people actually looked forward to going to Church because that’s pretty much all they had to look forward to “socially” wise? They would hear a good sermon, maybe do a little “sangin and shoutin” in the church aisles, and then afterwards they would gather somewhere for a good old fashioned home cooked meal and visit with the people they haven’t seen since last Sunday. This new generation has lost touch with what used to heal most ailments back then, and all it was were “Godly” seeds being planted by family, friends, and neighbors. So let me make is clear, you DON’T have to plant monetary seeds in order for them to be considered “Godly.” And Godly seeds can be as simple as a smile or a “good morning, or afternoon, or evening” to a passerby. It can also be as simple as a phone call to an friend that you might not have talked to in a while just to see how they are doing. Question, why do you think God put “Love thy neighbor, as thy self?” In my “Third Eye Perspective” way of looking at things, that is God giving us one of simplest ways we can plant “Godly” seeds. Yes, I know it is hard to love every neighbor or fellow man at times, some people make it very hard to like let alone “love” them. However, it is what God instructed us to do. Today, take time to plant a few “Godly” seeds, you never know the positive impact you might have on someone else’s life on the one hand, and then the Godly reward you will receive back on the other. Can I leave you with another question to ponder today if I may?
“What is keeping you from planting “Godly” seeds today after learning how easy it is to do?” Can I get an AMEN????
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ, by planting some “Godly” seeds every chance you get!”
