Thought For Today – “You vs You, Where All Real Battles Are Won and Lost”
Good Morning Saints! How are you doing this morning, good I hope? Did you have a good weekend, I sure hope so? Mine wasn’t the best, but I am not going to focus on that. Some things are beyond our control nomatter how hard we try to prevent bad things from happening to us. So I am going to focus on the good things that are happening to me. As the old saying goes, “A positive attitude produces positive things to happen.” And ironically, that is similar to what my message today is going to be about. As it appears we might be headed for World War III, I am reminded of the battle between David and Goliath. And ironically also, the message I listened to via Pastor Ron Carpenter this morning was about that very battle. So it is with this train of thought, or line of thinking, that it was placed on my heart this morning to talk about “You vs You, Where ALL Real Battles Are Won and Lost.” And AMEN goes right here! If you were to go and read the book of 1 Samuel and starting in or around the 17 chapter, on up until about the 25 verse, you will read the story of David and Goliath. Now hopefully all if not most of you have heard or read this story? I want to focus on the before battle characteristics of the situation. The Bible says, that (I’m paraphrasing here) Goliath who was a giant of a man and soldier for the Philistine army. He would wake up every morning, put on all of his armor, his brass helmet, a coat of mail that weighed 5000 shekels of brass, , then grab his huge spear that the Bible says weighed as much as 600 shekels of iron, and a shield as well. In other words, this dude was HUGE and even his armor was almost as intimidating as he was.
Now ever morning Goliath would cry out unto the Israelite army, “Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? Am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? Choose you a man for you and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us. I defy the armies of Israel this day. Give me man that we may fight together.” Basically to translate this in english terms, “Why you even come here acting like you really want to fight us? Ya’ll know ya’ll scared of us, and especially little ole me! But I tell you what, pick one of your brave soldiers to come down here and fight me, and if he wins, we will be your servants. However, WHEN I beat him, then you all will become servants to us.” The Bible goes on to say, that when King Saul and all of Israel heard this from Goliath, they were afraid. This is where my subject comes into play, because we all know that if you allow yourself to be intimidated enough BEFORE the battle you are facing even starts, chances are that you are going to be defeated very easily. Goliath was trying very hard to (as we called it growing up) “Punk the Israelites down,” and his antics were working. Let me give you some quotes from Pastor Carpenter’s message today that are fitting here……..”The size of your enemy determines the size of your reward. Never fight battles that don’t have any reward, or nothing is to be gained. Your enemy wants to intimidate you to keep you from even engaging.”
The toughest or hardest battle you will ever fight in life, will be with your ownself. Why, because so many times we allow our minds to let negativity and doubt creep into them and wreak havoc, causing us to lose any confidence in ourselves than we already had beforehand. If you don’t believe the battle is real within our minds, then try to explain the high number of suicides that take place each year? Especially people who are from the outside looking in, shows no sign of suicide. The answer to that question lies within the minds of those individuals. Negative voices create opportunities to be Blessed. Positive voices encourage you, but negative voices should inspire you to be creative. When young David showed up at the battlefield, his presence was not welcomed at first. Matter of fact, one of his brothers criticized him for leaving the flock of sheep he was supposed to be tending too. However, David had something unique going on in his mind. He was not intimidate by Goliath nor anyone else of their enemies. The main reason for that was because he knew he had God on his side. And as another old saying goes, “if God be FOR you, who could be against you? Meaning that if you have the one person who has ALL power in his hand, then why would we need to worry about who we we’re going to be battling against? Bringing it closer to modern day times, look at what’s playing out in front of the whole world right now between President Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. You have Kim Jong Un, running his head about launching a nuclear warhead at the United States, and you have the United States of America sitting back saying “Talk all you want to little man, however when I’ve had enough of your talking, I am going to show you what real superiority The moral to the stories mentioned in this message, are that nomatter how bad your situation appears to be, don’ t ever allow your mind to accept the negative energy/thoughts of your situation. Always think Positive, and positive things will happen to you. Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“How many battles have YOU lost, or are currently losing, that you never even entered into battle with?”
Can I get an AMEN?
“Today, choose to “Ride or Die” with Jesus Christ. Afterall, didn’t HE do just that for us on the Cross?”
