Thought For Today – “Greatness NEVER Comes Wrapped In Anything Great.”
Good Morning Saints? How are you doing this morning, good I hope? Are you having a good work week so far, I sure hope so? Mine started off a little shaky, but it is starting to look pretty good now! This morning’s message came to me as I was driving into work this morning. I was like normal, listening to Pastor Ron Carpenter who has become my favorite online pastor. The way he breaks his messages down, is just like the Pastor Derwin Baker of whose Church I attend regularly. Pastor Carpenter’s message title was “You Are A Part of His Plan,” and he talked about the story of Hannah, who gave birth to Samuel who would become the prophet who anointed the first king (Saul) of the Israelites. Pastor Carpenter made the statement “Greatness NEVER Comes Wrapped In Anything Great.” And that statement stuck with me and my mind kept repeating it over and over while I was trying to listen to the whole message. So with that being said, that will be my subject today. And AMEN goes right here! First, let’s define the word “Greatness” to get a better understanding of why it is so significant in today’s message. The dictionary definition of the word is as follows : “The quality of being great, distinguished, or eminent.” Now that we’ve defined the word “Greatness”, let’s dive into today’s message.
There are a lot of “Great” things that exist today isn’t there? The stars in the sky, all the different planets, even the Galaxy, the oceans, the great wall of China, Pyramids, the Statue of Liberty in New York, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the great Nile River just to name a few landmarks we love to gaze upon. Then you can start talking about some people who were Blessed with “Greatness,” the first of course being Jesus Christ, His mother Mary, and His earthly father Joseph, Moses, Abraham, Sampson, David, Jonah, and a host of other Biblical notables. How about some other everyday people who also were Blessed with Greatness, like former UCLA Basketball Coaching Legend John Wooden, Dean Smith, Rick Pitino, Nolan Richardson, in NCAA Basketball. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods in their prime in the sport of Golf? Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Julius Erving, Bill Russell, Jerry West, Bob Cousy, in the sport of Professional Basketball. Walter Peyton, Gayle Sayers, Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Dick Butkus, Jerry Rice, Deion “PrimeTime” Sanders, in the NFL? Hank Aaron, Derek Jeter, Barry Bonds, Yogi Berra, in MLB? Fred Whitfield, Joe Beaver, Roy Cooper, Cody Ohl, Dean Oliver, Billy Etbauer, Jimmy Cooper, Jake Barnes, Clay O’Brien Cooper, Speed Williams, Rich Skelton, Ty Murray, Charmayne James and her famed Barrel Horse “Scamper,” all from the world of Professional Rodeo. What does all these people listed above have in common? They were born ordinary people to most, but God Blessed them with an aurora of Greatness. You wouldn’t have known it in watching them grow up in their early years, but the minute they were old enough to start making decisions about their future purposes, it would seem that God ordained them to go on and do things that would leave people in total awe, amazement, astonishment.
One of the greatest things that God created was women. Now, now men, don’t get mad, it is very true if you think about it. Despite the incident in the Garden of Eden at that beginning of time and creation, God at first designed women to just be a “helpmate” for their man (aka Adam). However, the mistake that Eve made in the Garden of Eden, actually resulted in God making the decision for women not men, to be the ones who would defeat Satan before it is all said and done. Why, how, what do I mean by that? Well if you read your Bible in the book of Genesis, where it talks about the Garden of Eden’s incident, God made is so, that women would birth the sons and daughters that would “crush the head of Satan” and defeat him. Now, jump back with me to the Biblical days, when Jesus Christ was born, was there anything “Greatness” wise that He came wrapped up in that jumped out at you? What he was wrapped in clothes wise? Did He have a big caravan of bodyguards, and traveled in whatever the important folks traveled in back then? No, He was born in a manger, out in the back of an Inn because the Inn was full already when Mary and Joseph arrived. Did the Inn Keeper recognize Jesus as an infant being the Savior of mankind? NOPE! And what about King David before he slew the Philistine Giant Goliath? Would you have guessed that a young shepherd boy of David’s stature had anything “Greatness” wise wrapped inside of him? The same with Moses, Abraham, Joseph, Noah, and even Mary (Jesus’ Earthly Mother)??? Was there really anything special or “Great” about the physical appearance of Mary? All of the people above in this message were ordinary people at birth, and up until God tapped them with “Greatness.” To bring this closer to home, there are a lot of you reading this message right now that have been “tapped with Greatness” by God and don’t even know it. God has ordained you from birth to do great things, despite you acting, looking, feeling, and most likely being labeled by all of your peers as being normal or not anything special to brag about. This is also why so many people give up on their dreams, because they have a false sense of what “Greatness” is supposed to look like! God NEVER wraps Greatness in “Great” things. He wraps it in ordinary everyday things and more importantly people. Why? Because when that person realizes their purpose in life and works hard to achieve their purpose, when the “Greatness” is finally reached, they have no choice but to give God ALL the Glory for it! Can I leave you with a question to ponder today if I may?
“What’s Stopping You From Being Great In YOUR Purpose?”
Can I get an AMEN????
Long Live Real Cowboys!
