This is what I always did. Put up the barrier, walk horse toward it, have someone release the barrier just before he got to it. Spend some days doing that and letting him get closer to it each time before it is pulled. Keep doing it until he stops any jumping from it. Then load some calves and run them and have someone release the barrier before he gets to it. keep doing that until he gets close enough to it that his chest swings the barrier out of the way. Once he gets use to it, just tie the barrier with a very light string that almost breaks by pulling it when you hook it up and let him run through it. Then your on your way. Most important, don't be in a big hurry getting him use to it, so he don't start some bad habits.
