LE TIGRE @ Amsterdam's Paradiso [upstairs]
by Tanja; tanja@bunniesonstrike.cjb.net
when it concerns the concert itself, I was too busy dancing and singing.
So I'll keep it short.
Having been to their second ever Le Tigre gig in London, then to Cologne
and Rotterdam, I've seen a few show already that I can compare to.
The London show had very warm atmosphere, a crowded room full of excitement
and nervous band members! The slides were really slides, and the samples took ages
to load.
A lot has happened since. Equipment has been richly invested in (the samples
come flawless, the slides are now films projected from a DVD-disc) and JD
added an energetic set of dance routines.
In Amsterdam, I was bouncing around excited from having just heard the album.
I couldn't wait for the show to start. I was so excited with my bunny-ears, it was
probably annoying to some.
Le Tigre kicked of with TKO, a new song from their album to come. A strong
guitar riff repeats itself with a sweet disco beat and keyboard to go with it. Kathleen's
voice [need I say more?] makes it complete. All the signs are there and I can't help
bouncing to the beat and singing along with the chorus [cos I didn't know the rest
yet] the next songs had a really cool video to go with it and some of the great dance
steps [not as energetic as the last tour, unfortunately yet still definitely entertaining
and instrumental to the show] The crowd took a while to warm up, but at the end of
the show me and my friends weren't the only once dancing energetically and screaming
along [okay, I admit I don't understand the mood against dancing that the dutch often
have at concerts, so I'm not sure whether they just warmed up or it was the fact that
the song was deceptacon and it might be the only song they know... I haven't got a
clue] JD, Joanna and Kathleen had the crowd at their feet when they did their outtro
the master cover 'I'm so excited' [a definite favourite of mine
]
The new album is a great record. Very energetic beats that remind me of the 80's,
from early hip hop rhythms to almost tacky melodies that stick to yr brain with
really sweet lyrics as well as angry ones, sad ones and (of course) an anti Bush song
(you make sick!) I'll be the first to get to the store and get me the record 'This Island',
cos I really wanna have the whole package!
I'm so excited - I just can't hide it - I'm about to lose control and I think I LIKE IT!!!!!
