RIOT GRRRL WORLD CHAPTER NEWSLETTER
Dear riot grrrls and queerpunks,
I am Nina and I have a proposition for you all:
In a discussion on the Riot Grrrl Europe mailing list about zine distros (in Europe), the idea to make a Riot Grrrl World Newsletter or a Riot Grrrl Chapter zine was brought up by Jenni (of Emancypunx) and Hilde (of Lady!Die/Riot Grrrl Europe).
We continued brainstorming about the possibility of the project and how we would do it and because the reactions on the mailing list were positive, we decided to give it a go.
So what wed like to do is start a small newsletter (preferable one double-sided page or if really necessary more) that will be released every 3-4 months and spread throughout the world. Because we want this to be a Riot Grrrl WORLD project and not just some flyer made & spread by a few people locally, well need everyones participation.
What we need from you to make the newsletter:
- up-to-date contact info from the Riot Grrrl chapters
- short local news (feminist/queer/punk/activist/...-related)
- Contributions like articles, columns, scene reports, poems, reviews,... They can be older second-hand texts (translated to English) or new ones esp. for the newsletter. Its not the intention to make it a real thick zine but one or two articles would be good to keep every issue interesting.
- Dates for (lady)fests, riot grrrl conventions, big meetings,... (taking place +/- October - February) Sorry, no bands tour dates and gigs, that will be too much!
- Short definitions of riot grrrl to give more than just one point of view.
Id also like to ask:
- That you put the newsletter(s) on your chapters websites. Ill scan and mail the first issue to all of you when its ready.
- That you print, copy and spread the newsletter locally.
- That you forward it to feminists/queers/riot grrrls/distros/etc who can print it as well.
To insure full co-operation and participation, we suggest that every issue will be made (gathering info, doing layout, scanning, mailing) by another person/chapter/collective/group. We can do it in turns. Ill do #1 by myself, maybe with the help of the Riot Grrrl Belgium/Benelux chapter and of course with your contributions.
What wed like to achieve with the Riot Grrrl World newsletter:
- More networking between the various riot grrrl chapters and collectives
- Spreading/sharing info from all over the world
- Creating a flyer everyone can hand out.
- Inspiring people to participate, get active/creative and start a grrrl riot!
There is no definite name for the newsletter yet, so suggestions are still welcome! Let me know what you think and what you can/want to contribute! (Deadline Sept 15th)
If you know more chapters (esp. in Asia, Africa, Australiasia, Russia and South-America), please let me know!
