This year’s Borgward meet will be located in central California, October 21-24, 2011. Solvang, meaning “Sunny Field”, was founded in 1911 as a Danish-American colony. Located 45 miles north of Santa Barbara, the town embodies the expression “Denmark lives in Solvang”. The emphasis on “all-Danish” old-style architecture is still alive and well today.
Using Solvang as a base allows us some drive time to enjoy the area, which includes some of the very best San Ynez wineries, local California missions and of course we will be within driving distance of the coastal town of Santa Barbara; along with the beautifully styled and friendly town of Solvang to explore and relax.
The hotel for the meet is the Wine Valley Inn & Cottages. It is a nice, “pet friendly” Inn, with a variety of rooms from standard to rooms with fireplaces and a few separate Cottages nestled within the private gardens. There are various areas on the grounds and the gardens with outdoor tables and chairs to enjoy the afternoon and maybe share a glass of wine and conversation with each other. The manager and staff are very warm, helpful and friendly. The best part is, the Wine Valley Inn is surprisingly affordable.
For those who may also want to spend additional time in the area, October is Harvest time in the California wine country. During this time, while the weather is very pleasant, the visitors can enjoy the area without the crowds of the high summer season.
