Boy, that's a good question. As with any antique gun it's condition must be taken into consideration as well as the design. They where actually used with some pretty heavy loads in it's day. I did a google search here state side and could find any difinitive answers to your (?). But here's a link of it's history, maybe it'll give you more info or possible sources to search.
