zeroing in on target

I have a BP Buntline Target Pistol and need serious help in sighting in in.
I shot several rounds of .451 ball with 20 grains of Goax BP using a make-shift rest at a paper target(81/2"x11") at a distance of 25yds.
I'm all over the place and could use some guidelines on how to shoot.
