Colt has some records. The serial number should be stamped in the forward return of the triggerguard. I found an 1849 pocket model in the ground, and got information on when it was made, what the original barrel length was, and where it was first sold. I think it cost about $15.00 back then, but that has been many years ago. TTYL.
