That is a variable directly related to storage and environmental concerns.
I have personal experiance loading my BP rifle for Deer season in November, having no shot presented through-out the season and shooting the load out in January.
They have found Lewis and Clark "cache" of powder sealed in lead containers after 150 years and the powder was still viable.
Humidity and temp swings are the bane of long term storage. In a controled environment the load in the cylinder itself would/could be fine for years. However, the "cap" placed on the nipple is much more suseptable to degredation, and that is directly related to reliable ignition. Hope that help's, perhaps other's will add chime in
