Thx Fred, my personal problem is at present to keep my smokepoles running with the severe restrictions we have on firearms in South Africa.
Fortunately, muzzleloaders and replicas of muzzleloaders from before 1900 are not classified as "firearms" and we do not have to have them licenced. Problem is that you have to have special permission from the Police to buy gunpowder. Caps are getting hard to come by too and that is why I was scratching around on this forum among others.
Thanx again! I picked up a LOT of useful information.
Have already built a punch and anvil as you suggested and am experimenting with flash powders to see what will work best. The potassium chlorate mix seems to work well but the stuff is extremely hard to come by. "Vestas" are impossible to find.
Will let you guys know when I am successfull.

: The tap-o-cap mentioned by Bob L above uses
: aluminum from a pop can Daan. Something like
: a pliers type leather punch, with a cup on
: one side and a rod on the other to form the
: cap. A guy could fab a cup with steel bar
: and drill bit, then use a Punch to push the
: aluminum into the hole.
: I don't think I'd use wax to seal the
: compound in place, it would/could plug the
: nipple. Perhaps an oversize piece of
: newspaper pushed over the top??
: Don't forget the old "match lock"
: style, a smoldering rope lowered into the
: touch hole or nipple hole.
: I still think in an apocoliptic scenario
: I'd move to Bow and or snare and a club for
: food.

: I have never tried it but it would not be
: impossible.
: Several compositions come to mind, the
: simplest of which will probably the crushed
: match head mixed with a bit of the
: composition on the side of the box that is
: used to ignite the match when scraped over
: it, or, just using "non"safety
: matches (the type that you scrape over your
: boot sole).
: Otherwise any of the potasium chlorate
: sulphur and charcoal mixtures can be used as
: it is sensitive enough for the purpose.
: The most difficult part would be obtaining
: thin enough copper sheet and stamping it in
: the correct shape.
: Then it would only need to put some of the
: pyrotechnic compound in the cap and sealing
: it off with a hard wax.
: Experimenting would bring one to the best
: composition and method of fixing it in the
: cap that would be safe but still sensitive
: enough.

: Is it possible to make caps for
: muzzleloaders?
: I have been reading a flint may make the
: best survival gun [worst case senerio] and
: really would rather make a cap lock gun but
: finding caps in that sittuation may be too
: difficult, so can you make caps ? How ?
:
: Thanks
: Bill
